That looks good. However, I think that a standard "universal joint" coupling would work better and allow more movement without worrying about running into too many problems.

Here are two examples of what I was referring to.

OK, that's what I have in mind. The only difference: No ball joints, swivels only because they are easier to build. :)

A first try at the coupling. I suppose some of you thought it to look different. I examined the couplings on modern trailers closely. Julius Perdana's Hagglunds BV 206 has one that looks more like the real-world ones, however, that one is only applicable in a static display.
Just a design note, the Hagglunds BV 206 connection is both the drive train, and the steering linkage. The vehicle turns by articulating the front and rear cabs. In the US Army they are called the S.U.S.V. (small unit support vehicle), we had a bunch of them in Alaska.

Interesting. I thought so about the drive train but what do you mean with "cabs"? I'm not familiar with this term and Google only brings up "cabin".

I think this will do for a sci-fi design. Connecting cables will be attached later. ;)
I like the look of this coupling unit. I think that it will work well. You have my vote for it!!! thumbsup

The SUSV (BV 206) has a front "cab" (and cabin would be understood) and in most of the configurations that we had, a back "Cab" for cargo/troops. The first bogie on both track sets is the sprocketed drive wheel. The bottom part of the connection is the drive linkage, the rest (as I remember) is the steering linkages, which articulate the front and rear units, to steer. The tracks are constant speed, all four of them, unlike the snowcats, which steer like a tank. Julius Perdana's Hagglunds BV 206 has a cargo rear (like the first picture below), which is the biggest reason I haven't built it, yet. I want the Rear cab like the vehicles in my unit. On the second picture below you can see a hatch over the passenger side front. I want to add this to my snowram.

Quick sitrep:

All Colonial Landram files have been updated and re-uploaded to the Resources. The lights and texture patches have become obsolete, so these files are gone.

The turret however has not been updated yet, so there will be another version. Stay tuned! :)

Yo folks,

while working on the instructions for the Colonial Viper I had the idea for a new paint scheme for the Colonial Landram. It is a new camo paint scheme that has never been seen before. I'm doing some tests and will give you sitreps as they are coming in.

Stay tuned, it's gonna be COOL!!! :)

Great idea! But what I have in mind is a bit different. I'm still figuring out the interior design. Yes, this one will feature an interior (albeit a simple one and only in the back compartment). :)

A quick update: The new paint scheme is set. I have developed two new horns which I will test on-the-fly. Pretty easy design but sometimes the easiest things are the trickiest. ;)

The new Ram will feature unique parts which have to be tested. In order to speed up the test build I have combined several components (recessed windows, the base of the undercarriage, the undercarriage itself and the wheels and tracks). For the simplified track / wheel combination I used a technique @Rhaven Blaack came up with. Instead of using flaps I laminated the wheels and tracks to corrugated card and used the thickness of the card to attach the track strips.

This area is covered with leftover track prints.

From a distance it looks pretty convincing and will do its job.

Of course the final kit will have all parts to build detailed wheels and tracks. ;)

Steady there she goes! :)

The simplified base of the undercarriage consists of one top layer, one bottom layer and a strip of paper. The cutouts were omitted and the areas painted black. The top layer was laminated to corrugated card of the desired thickness. Then the bottom layer is laminated to the back side. The rim was covered with the paper strip. Clean and fast result! :)

However, I had some trouble with my SD card. It lost the build pics. Fortunately I was able to recover them but a few lost their colour information, so some of the pics are presented in black and white. It was too late to take new pics because the undercarriage had already been assembled, but I think they show clearly what has been done.

Careful observers will notice a colour change on the drive wheel: The center is now red like it was on the Snowram. I'm not sure if it was painted differently in the show or if it simply was not visible but a new behind the scenes picture taken in daylight shows a red axis:

I'll update the drive wheel graphics accordingly and will release it with the new revised turret mount (so all previously released versions will be updated soon).

On to the driver's cabin and the new parts! CU! :)
