How ell to you know your Train Routes?

Okay, I'll try it. I was planning on writing a book and was thinking of fictional train names, and in the process ended up doing a quite of bit of research. Let's see what I learned...

    Future Collegiate Career in Railroading?

Thanks for all the responses! I'm definately willing to be flexible, it's just I'm trying to think of a good degree--and I'm pretty settled on engineer. Granted, I've taken no drafting/related high school courses, but high school is general education and doesn't really apply other than...

    Future Collegiate Career in Railroading?

Hey all. Okay, so being a junior in public high school, I've come to the point where I seriously need to start considering my college options and what I want to do with my life. I'm enrolled in a few AP classes (Advanced Placement college courses that earn college credits) with a dose of TV...

    back to the grind

nutbar, those look great! The diesel is pretty... well, odd... but those steamers (as always) are top-notch. How come the track seems un-"edited"? No paint, ballast? Just wondering. But those locomotives are downright beautiful. Thanks for the pics. :thumb:

Need New Loco: 2-8-2 BLI Mikado?

Thanks guys... really appreciate the comments. It really is a nice locomotive. I'm wondering if I could get some more decals (for the dome) since ATSF number boards are not in existance seperately and superdetail the locomotive. My first step today is head to the LHS, pick up some light oil for...

Need New Loco: 2-8-2 BLI Mikado?

Thanks Miles. I got some pics of her now... sorry for the crappy quality but it's midnight here and I haven't gotten around to bargaining for layout display lights yet. The 2-8-2 goes head to head with the 2-8-0. This goes to show that the quality of the locomotives is on par. The...

    HO v. N

Well, is Steven Colbert better than Jon Stewart? :) Hahaha, it's a matter of opinion. The largest argument is space.... and how much of it you have. N scale stuff is just as accessible as HO, so that doesn't matter as much as it did in years past according to seasoned modelers.... (But the...

Need New Loco: 2-8-2 BLI Mikado?

It's amazing how things turn out. Friday night I had been searching desperately for the BLI Mike because Walthers was sold out and, after a phone call with BLI, learned that no more would be distributed until another run of the 2-8-2's was done a few years down the road. (They only had some...

Need New Loco: 2-8-2 BLI Mikado?

Miles, thanks for the link. I'll try to track down a RTR or debate the kit version in the near future. But I think right now I'm going to stick with the BLI after what Russ said. 1798 and 1799 were rebuilt by the ATSF shops, but also the Santa Fe purchased a few Mikados from the PRR. So...

Need New Loco: 2-8-2 BLI Mikado?

Hahaha, Miles you know I'll create an updated layout thread just for you when I have the time. I was planning on doing it with the new loco... so hence the hesitation. Nkp--thanks for the advice. I never considered a Prarie because I didn't believe there were any plastic RTR models that I could...

Need New Loco: 2-8-2 BLI Mikado?

Man, I'll tell you, I honestly can't make up my mind. Flusheet--it doesn't sound that hard, but I don't think I'd be able to touch a $200 loco and put on a new headlight, etc, etc even with sheer prudence.... I mean, what cnw did was flabbergasting. Unlike him, my layout is based...

Need New Loco: 2-8-2 BLI Mikado?

Wow pg never thought of it like that. However, too much money, time, and space has been invested in this layout, and changing it now is most definately not an option--even the era has been meticulously procured on the layout and its locomotives. Honestly, modelling a branch line in HO, I...

Need New Loco: 2-8-2 BLI Mikado?

I talked with Mr. Armitage, and I decided to return the product to the train distributor I bought it from in Illinois. I shipped it a few days ago, so I should be hearing from the store any day now. When the money is back in my pocket, I'll probably head down to the LHS and order it through him...

Santa came from Santa Fe this year …

Those are some nice looking diesels... we don't need that big layout to run the Chiefs... it can be in our dreams! Hahaha. A temporary solution for myself anyway. But those loco's look great, and it seems the detailing of them (and the layout) is coming along wonderfully!
