    248 & 252 Pre-war engine couplers

Recently was able to get my hands on two pre-war lionel engines, and wanted to know about riveting. Never had any experience with this sort of thing. First is it hard to remove existing rivets, and how hard is it to put new rivets in? Just have one to replace, or is it best to just leave it...

    Trolley help

Hi David, yes its 3 rail "O", thanks for answering. I'll have to buy one of those and see if it'll work. Since your the only one that answered, maybe I'll try the local Radio Shack. I guess I'm looking for something that will cut the power for around 15 to 20 seconds and then release so the...

    Question: LIONEL 2348 Power needs

Hey Jim pleased to meet ya. In either case I believe the steps are correct, even for HO? Although I'm not that familiar. I know on O gauge trains, they have a switch somewhere that locks them into fwd, neu, or rev. Now HO is probably different?

    Question: LIONEL 2348 Power needs

I do believe you are right Russ, but I did see in one of the train catalogs that MRC does make an O gauge transformer. So Postwar O hope you read this. You must have an O gauge transformer. Were the other steps correct Russ?

How to replace a worm wheel

Russ I am really sorry to hear that, I grew up with Lionel, but as I said they got a little out of my price range, which in turn drove me to other vendors. My first 2 sets were Lionel, back in the early 50's, even have my original ZW transformer. Happy Holidays! Harry

    Question: LIONEL 2348 Power needs

Very important, before you do this verify with someone else, but here is my suggestion. Am not familiar with your transformer, but I take it you have O gauge trains and transformer? On most transformers you have a throttle, the higher you go the more power (voltage), the more speed. Step 1: I...

How to replace a worm wheel

Say Russ I know what you mean about Lionel. I live down here in a small town 30 miles south of San Antonio. There are 2 hobby shops that do "O", think I'm down to 1 now. I hope you're not like me, I'm a one man O gauge show. Have you tried some of your railroad friends that might work on trains...

    Metal in ballast

A few years ago I read an article in one of the train magazines and they suggested that everything be glued down with that 50/50 mixture like russ suggests. I run the O stuff. It sort of stuck in my mind wheather it be grass, sand or ballast. I put down a layer of glue first, then spray with...

How to replace a worm wheel

I noticed no one has answered your question, so I'll give you my two cents for what its worth. If you have a hobby shop, with a repair shop that is trusted. I would take it to them. I had an engine "Santa Fe" F7 that was purchased back in the 50's I took it in to them and it runs like brand...

Lighting Help - What to use?

On many occassion, I have used small Christmas tree lites. Since the dock looks "rustic", probably would use the color red draped accordingly? Just a suggestion. You have to be careful about the voltage, too much and pop goes the lite!

    Trolley help

Recently purchased a trolley and want to know if there is some way to halt it at certain stops on the layout without powering down all the time. Something like an automantic timer, I think I remember something in O gauge or Classic Toy trains where this can be accomplished. It will be on a...

I'm new here so I need advice.

I'm brand new to the site also, but I would say if you have the space, and don't mind taking your time purchaseing "O", that would be the way to go, but all and all its a fun hobby no matter what the gauge! tracman165
