Sanity check.... Colton switcher, circa 1985

Model Railpower makes an SD39 shell which is what I used to kitbash my SP SD38s. As for the slug, I've seen 'em done in HO scale by others but never got around to doing one myself. I would love to see a set of step by step photos of your project. Someday I plan on tackling one myself... ;)...

    5 Happy Happy Birthdays.

Geezer is a state of mind. You can be a geezer at 30 or not a geezer at 80. Being a geezer requires constant vigilance. One must never let down one's gaurd. Even in the face of absolute and total happiness, one must be able to maintain a grumpy, sarcastic attitude. One must also say things...

    5000 Fluorescents

Try looking at Home Depot or Lowes. They usually have 5K, 5.5K and 6K Daylight bulbs. I have the 5K bulbs in my layout room but use the 5.5K for pictures on the bench. Like Paul, I have found the 5.5Ks to be the best. The 5Ks tend to be a little bit red-ish and the 6Ks tend to be a little...

    5 Happy Happy Birthdays.

Thanks... I'm now officially a few years short of being a geezer... Fortunately, I have developed the geezer mentality early to avoid the rush... :D Tom Fassett

    Rockwork pics.... :-) please

From what I understand, rocks are made out of lava, consisting of various aggregate materials like iron, silica, etc... :D ;) :p Tom F Oh, you mean my rocks. They're plaster of paris... :D

    help with hump yard operation

His idea of "working on it" is to harrass me to figure it out... ;) The only thing I have been able to come up with is an opto sensor system feeding a "time to voltage" converter contolling an electromagnet. If it sounds complicated, that's because IT IS! That's why I haven't built it... :D...

    Up/sp

A while back I promised to post a picture of the non-patched GP38-2s sitting in Tempe, AZ. They are still there and still not patched. Here is a picture taken the end of January, 2003. Tom F

    Up/sp

Greg and Bob, you should be ashamed of yourselves... Crud? Junk? I think it's beautiful (except for that blasted patch)... :p :D Greg, was that photo taken at the yard in Sparks? I looked all over when I was up there a couple of weeks ago and never found a single switcher. There has to...

    Danish Model

Sheesh, Jon, she looked better in real life than she does in the photo. I, um, hope you don't mind, but, um, I took her out for a little "test spin" before they sent her to ya'... I swear though, it was purly a friendship thing--I never touched her!...:p Well, actually, I touched her, but...

    Non Athearn SD40-2

Hey Roger, I think I have the unit you are talking about. The manufacturer was GSB Rail and I bought it in 1986. It was the best looking non brass SD40-2 at the time but you are correct about it being a poor puller. The wheels would slip trying to tug 6 50' box cars on a level surface... It...

    Danish Model

Hey Jon, I'm glad I could make your fantasy come true, but please stop going around telling everyone I fixed you up with a Danish model. I'm getting calls from "friends" I never even knew I had...:D :p Tom F

    electrical question: latching relay

I say the info is on the relay somewhere. I have a couple of DIP mounted Communications Instruments Relays and they have a "rough" schematic on the top. The "coil voltage" inputs are usually across from each other, on one end of the device or the other. Try scanning the chip on a flatbed...
