    Athearn Genesis GP7/9 Announced

Just noticed this on the Athearn new products listing! The long awaited, dimensionally correct GP7/9 (hopefully), for the first time in HO plastic. I'm excited! http://www.athearn.com/Articles/HobbyWire.aspx Sure wish they had more options for roadnames! (and a lower msrp!)

    P42 replacement motor?

So I had an older Genesis SD70 on the sidelines. I opened it up and sure enough the motor was about the right size. I readjusted the motor mount and dropped it in the p42 using one P42 drive shaft and one sd70 shaft to get the lengths right. The installation looked pretty good, and it ran...

    P42 replacement motor?

Hi everyone, I'm looking to replace the motor in one of my Athearn P42s. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get this motor to run nicely. It's rather noisy and performs poorly. Do you have any suggestions for replacement motors or ways to improve the performance of the stock motor. It...

    Alternative to decals

I occasionally use transfer lettering from woodland scenics. Basically this is just ink on a plastic transfer sheet. I would think that your idea should work too. I wonder if I could use my cnc mill to create a custom rubber carving?

    New Hampshire railroading

Hi, The mainline ballast is Woodland Scenics brand Medium gray blend. The sidings use a finer stone...and in the case of the gravel pit, I used sand. Sand should be avoided normally since it's bad for gears, it can damage wheel platings, and it may contain iron particles.

    Atlas HO GP40-2(W) Locomotive

Hi everyone, I pre-ordered a set of Guilford GP40-2(W) locos (in HO) months and months ago. It was originally scheduled to be delivered in December '09. Has anyone seen or heard anything about a revised delivery date? I saw the actual painted model at the Atlas booth in Springfield MA, so I...

Prooduct reviews for locos & rolling stock

I think I would stick to their current offerings (blue boxes). Perhaps the b23-7 or b30-7 would be a better choice if you're going for a GE. I packed my low expectations when buying my first DCC-equipped GP35, but I was pleasantly surprised! The detail level is nice, and the mechanism is...

    New Hampshire railroading

The two levels are isolated from each other...but this is a temporary situation. I'll be moving in a few years to a new location. If the new space allows, I will rearrange the configuration to allow both levels to be on the same plane. While the rails do not connect, the scenery will.

    New Hampshire railroading

Sure! I have 4 sets of the old IHC/Mehano Boeing LRCs. These are the type which Seashore Trolley museum just acquired. The models are pretty basic, but I think they have good potential. I will be adding details and decals, and maybe installing Bowser mechanisms.

    New Hampshire railroading

I wanted to share a few shots of my railroad in the New Hampshire section. (My railroad focuses on Boston, Noth Station and points north.) Pan Am (Guilford) freight parked on a sweeping curve near Plaistow, NH on a warm spring afternoon. Guilford GP40 hauling a local freight north while a...

    Mu cars

Although, not powered, the ConCor MP54 coaches are pretty nice. There are rumors of a powered version to be released some day. Perhaps you could rig your own mechanism...or kitbash the chassis of a proto 1000 rdc, or doodlebug.

Prodigy advance^2 with older Atlas Master locos? *UPDATE*

***UPDATE*** Problem Solved! I discovered last night that the addresses on my older Atlas locomotives were derived from the actual painted number on the side of the cab. BUT here's the trick... they used only the last 2-digits. That way the loco comes out of the box with a...
