What type of road bed do you use?

About the Roadbed Matter... I've used cork, UniTrack, & handlaid my own. This time around I'm using ceiling tiles and code 83/70/55 flextrack. Fast, durable, quiet. Got my vote!

Hi Charlie, Would you be very kind to us technocripples and share your links (i.e., gallery and other shortcuts)? Thanks mucho!

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] - Part VI

I can't find the link the Index page of threads on "The Gauge"? Ditto "Active Topics" pertaining only to model railroading?

    N scale radius versus HO

Mountain Man, you pushed one of my "rant" buttons with this comment. I'll try to restrain myself here. The implication of your statement is that anyone who doesn't "follow the prototypical standards and practices of the period they model" is not a serious modeler. Please allow me to demur. If...

    The Tower 55 / T55 Mess

I have a Tower 55 SP ES44AC, an NP ES44DC, and a SF ES44DC, and they are some of my best performers, and best-looking locomotives on my layout. I have a standing "Favorite Search" on eBay for any of their locomotives that might be offered.

    Kansas City Southern Grain Hoppers

I just received three of them (different road numbers) I ordered from Hobbyland in Mishawaka, Indiana. (I think I got the last three they had on hand.) They were $22.99 each. It looks like there are five different road numbers, total: 286003 286025 286113 286130 286139 A lot of places on the...

What made you realize model trains were more than just toys?

For several years as a kid I had an American Flyer train set that we only brought out at Christmas time. I pestered my parents so much to "get out the train set" for any plausible occasion that the Christmas when I was 11, instead of the pair of switches I had asked for for the AF set my parents...

I Give Up - What Is It?

Life imitating art? This is a real, privately-owned diesel dedicated to working the grain elevator traffic in Higginsville, MO. ... or were you commenting about the quality of my cell phone camera?

I Give Up - What Is It?

But this is so much fun! Maybe you could bribe your wife to DO the download for you? Or maybe somebody on the Geek Squad with some spare time on their hands? Here are the only two train pictures I've ever taken from a cell phone and downloaded. I now carry a real camera in my car...

    Model Railroad Hobbist Magazine

I'm surprised no one has commented on this thread (until now, of course!). What a tremendous idea (IMHO!). Follow the link and look at the fine print: As much as possible, we prefer articles that push the envelope in the hobby and that include rich media (3D virtual reality images...

    Plywood vs. Humidity

Free-Mo Modules from HCDs? This thread has really generated a lot of ideas! I started it off asking for opinions about various ways of beating the variable temperature/humidity situation I experience here in the "middle Midwest" (where I've only lived for 3-1/2 years) and look where it has...

4th of July Weekend Photo Fun

I thought I had posted this picture to a 7/4 thread on this forum, but I've been wrong before (once, I think, in, like, 1974). Anyway, I like it, so you're gonna see it again!
