    signals/control boxes

Sorry 'bout that,HO scale.I looked on the Walthers site but all I could find was the signals with three small lights. The ones I'm looking for have a large back withe a hood over the light{ I can't for the life of me think of the name, although it'll come to me as soon as I hit send}Some places...

    signals/control boxes

G'day,Could someone tell me who makes good looking signals/control boxes? I'm not looking for the ones that work, just look realistic,I'm four hours from the nearest hobby shop so I can't go look,so I have to know what to ask for. I'm modeling CN,early/mid '60s,Nova Scotia. Thanks a bunch

What type of road bed do you use?

Being somewhat frugal{m'lady calls it cheap}I use scraps of paneling and maranti board, cut slightly wider than the ties and round off the edge with one of those foam sanding blocks, glue down with caulking, nail track with straight pins, ballast with stuff I sifted frm gravel where an asphalt plant...

What era draws your attention the most?

Ok, now I have the urge to expand on my original, simplistic answer.I don't "play with" my trains much, for me it's the modeling, making scenes that are as real looking as I can make them with the limited resourses available to me{see "poverty is....."}I run the trains once in a while to keep up on...

What era draws your attention the most?

I voted for transition era, even though I'm likely on the tail end of it,being the early '60's the steamers are gone. But I wasn't sure later 20th century was a right fit either. Must be the meds.

    I Quit too

After smoking for forty-some years I was surprised to find that I can hardly stand to be near a smoker, and to get in a car that is smoked in nearly makes me sick

Could someone point me in the direction of the exit?

I guess every one has their own story,I just asked for help on a subject that had been covered before, the respondent could have given me the old "thats been covered, look it up,bla bla"but instead provided a link. By and large this is a good site,I've been on other sites{briefly}where you were...

    control advice

G'day,as i've said before, all my stuff is "previously owned"and obtained from train shows.I now have to admit that my five dollar, train set controllers are not up to the task. They work ok with one engine at a time,or even two old Bachman F's,but two Athearns on a hill{and I have a couple of...

    Childhood train influence?

My vote was for "A" The small village I'm from/live in now ,wouldn't be here if not for the railway,It's not much now but when I was a kid there was two sawmills and three stores and had been much larger before that also,my farher worked the section here for 20+ years. When the big...

    DC or DCC??

I guess I'm stuck with the 5.00$ DC controllers I started with, even though my "empire" has grown to all the way arround a 26x16 ft room with about 20 ft of staging.Used lots of lamp and telephone wire.

Another " heat in garage " thread

Y' kind of wandered off from the heating part a bit, wha'? Condensation is a problem when you don't have constant heat,so I would try and keep a bit of heat all the time,to keep it dry and turn it up when your there. What that heat sourse would be depends on your budget more than anything,but...
