    deLuxe Innovations

I have LBF's that came with MT trucks and couplers. As mentioned the loads aren't that nice but I spayed my loads with contact cement and dipped them in black sand from the craft store and they look great now. Over all a very nice looking and working car.

    Amazing sound

Anytime you nail your track to the plywood the nails will carry the sound of the train from the track to the table top and amplify it. You can get away with roadbed on plywood without having a lot of noise if you use glue to hold the roadbed and track. That said, foam is the best way.

    coupler and truck conversions

I just put the truck -coupler out there as an option. I have changed almost all my cars by just switching to the MT truck-couplers. I have assembled just the couplers for my engines though. Assembling the couplers is easy enough but for a newbee getting the height right could be a frustrating...

    coupler and truck conversions

Body mounting your couplers is one option. Another way is to change out the trucks and replace them with the Micro Trains truck-coupler combos. If you are relatively new to model rr ing, changing the complete truck-coupler combo is much easier than just changing couplers and trying to get the...

    Con-cor Amtrak Phase IV quality?

I have several of the Con Cor phase 4's and I like them. Some say the detail isn't quite as good as the Kato's but I'm well satisfied with mine.

    Mounting Unitrack

I use a glue gun. You do have to careful that you don't get the glue too hot or it will melt into the foam. The nice thing about this method is,,, it holds your track secure but you can still pull it loose without damaging it if you want to change something. Also, the hot glue when dry will peel...

    bachman dash 8 question

I have several of these engines and they run real good. After looking at one of them ,about the only way to add weight would be to cast the fuel tank in lead or some other metal. That should gain you some tractive effort.

    Cheapest place to buy track

Toy Train Heaven is about the best prices I have seen on Atlas and Kato Unitrack.

    Kato UniTrack

I think the kitrs are expensive. The best price I have found is Toytrain Heaven. They run an add in Railroad Model Craftsman. check there.

    Kato UniTrack

I was faced with the same problem of what track to use last year when I started. After seeing what John accomplished I went with Kato. Some say it is more expensive but if you figure the price of track, roadbed and ballast it comes out pretty even. Of course you have to shop for the best price...

    Help Save Student Fare!

I'm not up to date on this, but you mean to tell me MR is doing away with student fare? If so, isn't that sort of shooting themselves in the foot. Here they are trying to promote the Worlds Greatest Hobby and they cut out the part of the mag. devoted to students. As for young people not...

Katos that like to decouple and derail

The early bird gets the worm, but look what happens to the early worm. I got detention ( an office call in those days) for that one. I was late for class and the teacher gave me the old Early bird thing and I said , yes but look what happened to the early worm.
