Modelling the truck loading area of an industry

Two questions acually.... 1) I'm having trouble trying to find a way to model concrete for the entire industry complex? How did the rest of you model it? and if you did, could you post some pics? 2) My industries are level with the top of the roadbed...but my main street will be 1/4" below...

    Need help with certain details

See this is what I love about this hobby, the people who go out of their way to help out a complete stranger, sometimes on the other side of the world for no particular reason except that we share a common interest. I really appreciate the fact that you would go down to the plant itself and see...

    Need help with certain details

I am currently modelling an industry that requires incoming loads of paints and plastic pellets, I was wondering if anyone could either post a pic or point me in the direction of how the plastic pellets, and paint are unloaded from hoppers and tankcars into the silos that store them. I have pics...

    TOFC/COFC Dilemna

Here is the second scratchbuild based on the same idea as my trailers. Although this time instead of cereal box for the sides I chose IDE cable from an old computer. I plan on making the outside of the stack with these and inside will be simple blocks of wood with detailed ends.

    TOFC/COFC Dilemna

Each game contains about 20 pieces so that's 2 bucks to meet my quota for trailers....a box of cereal cost $2.95 and I feed the kids too....the wire and cable TV wire cost me nothing so basically I can furnish an ENTIRE empire for under $45 Canadian. Or $10 if you have a layout like mine.

    TOFC/COFC Dilemna

I was starting to build my intermodal tofc/cofc facility when I was faced with a dilemna. I needed 30+ trailers to fill the scene up, and so I looked through my model boxes....not one trailer. I went to the dollar store and came back with my usual craft paints, glue, and hobby blades and a small...

    New Canadian Eastern layout pics

Here are some pics of my new freelanced layout, the Canadian Eastern. Here's a bit of history about the railroad. The now bankrupt Iron Ridge Railroad still had 4 locomotives in it's roster and no track to run them on. While on vacation in Ontario, CEO Ed Burchell noticed a stretch of track...

    First scratchbuild on new layout

My first scratchbuild for the new layout is a merchant freighter for my small harbour at the front right corner of my layout. I used 1/4" cardboard stacked and glued one on top of the other to form the basic shape for the ship. Then once that was dry and solid...I wrapped cereal box cardstock...

First scratchbuild on the new layout

One industry on my new layout is a small harbour with enough space for a single merchant freighter. So, my first project is to build a freighter to go in the harbour. So far I have layered 1/4" cardboard in wafers to make the hull and added cereal cardstock to the sides to make the smooth...
