    Season's Greetings!

And now it's time to wish every one a Very Happy and Prosperous New Year, with a wish that the latter will be true, despite the current economic conditions everywhere.

It's a little too quiet in here.

    Or both!

    Railfaning in PA

Altoona is a great place, and you should take time to visit the Railroaders Memorial Museum, too. If you go there first, you can get information on all the other sites in the area (there are many), including the Horseshoe Curve (which has a public viewing area). The last I knew, you could not...

    Am I getting to old?

My favorite era is the one I grew up in -- the late 1950s, and that is where my primary model interest lies. However, the rail bug is the rail bug, and I like pretty much anything and everything to do with rails; and my second most favorite is probably the present. Now where does that put me...

    Submitting to MR and MRC?

While I have no personal experience in submitting anything for publication in these or any other magazines, I do know that most publications have certain guidelines which you should follow. If these are not actually published in the magazine itself, I'm sure you can request them from the publisher.

Video of the Hudson CP 2816 Steam Engine

Just out of curiosity, where did this take place and what was the occasion?

What era draws your attention the most?

I like the transition era, especially the late 1950's, probably because that's the railroad era I grew up with and probably had the most exposure to. In second place, I guess I'd have to put the modern era. I kinda like those big diesels, too (although I can't tell one from another).

    KATO's UP Heritage Units

I'd kinda like to have them all; but they don't fit my railroad or my era, so I voted none.

In the future - no rails?

Great. I wonder how long it will be before we see a real train operating in revenue service that way. It seems to me, there needs to be a good way to "refuel" the liquid nitrogen.

    North American Rail Alliance

I'd kinda forgotten about it, too; but will go take a look. And, for railohio, I am in Iowa right now, and will be all next week. If I run across anything good, I'll at least post something here.

    Childhood train influence?

Like so many others, I started with a Lionel outfit. Don't remember when I first got it, but it developed into quite a layout in my parent's house. One thing led to another, and I visited an Aunt and Uncle in the summer, and sometimes would go by train -- ALL BY MYSELF. This got me interested...

Practical? Maybe not, but they're still fascinating to look at. Thanks.

    Winber/altoona action this past monday

Yes, it is a great place. The Cornell Chapter NRHS had a trip down there just last weekend and we had a wonderful time. Stopped at Tyrone on the way and caught Amtrak boarding. Spent some time at the Museum and visited a number of places in the area where we could take pix. Of course, spent...
