    New Electric Lines in Canada?

I believe Sudbury-White River is the only active VIA service on CPR right now (other than the parallel one-way lines in BC/Ontario mentioned above. The Brockville-Smiths Falls line is owned by VIA now...I think. Other than the GO electrification I can't think of any onther mainline...

    Back Again

Thanks David. I actually found some aerial photography on-line which has helped figure things out somewhat, but a trackplan would be best. Not sure if the scale on those maps you mentioned would be sufficient to show all the sidings, etc. Apparently there are some excellent resources at the...

    Toronto LHS Question

Hmm, that's interesting. Hopefully a better location, though I imagine the rent would be higher down there. I like it when there is a clustering of similar stores like that...now with W&W, DeSerres (formerly Loomis and Toles), and John's in a short stretch, that could make for some productive...

    Back Again

Hello again, After disappearing for a while due to work and relocation issues, I'm ready to resume model railway activities again. A recent new (to us) home purchase includes a 16'x10' room which can be dedicated (pretty much) to the new MR empire. Switching gears a bit, I've shifted my...

    Toronto LHS Question

It would have to be very new - otherwise, John's is it for that stretch. There used to be a place called "Casey's" over near Greenwood, but that's been gone a long time now (20 years?). I grew up going to John's with my Dad...I'm not sure, but I think the owner finally retired and passed it...

    Peabody's Improbable History!

MasonJar, we may need to discuss interchange details at Madawaska, when my proposed extension of the Lindsay, Bobcaygeon and Pontypool railway to Mattawa occurs!

    Sub-Divisions and Division Points

I think the line you are referring to is CN's York Subdivision, which runs from Bramalea Junction to Pickering. It was built in the 1960s to allow CN freight traffic to by-pass downtown Toronto.

    GO Coach Behind ON Train

I thought ONR had been sold off by the province. Doesn't CN own it now? I know at one time ON considered buying the Bombardier Bi-levels as passenger equipment. I think they instead opted to convert the old GO single level equipment.

Modeling different regions or time periods?

I remember that MR article too, and if I have it (and can find it) I will see about passing it on to you Robert. I've bounced around a bit but usually modeled modern day (either British or NA prototype). At one point I inherited a few UK steamers so I set up a "heritage" railway branch to...

    Renovating attic for train room

Your house sounds like it could be very similar to mine - small bungalow, built in 1939 (Toronto - Birchcliff area). Have you been up in your attic at all yet? If it is anything like mine it would be very difficult to use it for anything more than storage. I can't even stand up in my attic...

    Widecabs

safety cab=modern widecab for all intents and purposes, just that the early Canadian safety cabs had a different look as pointed out above. TRAINS magazine had an article a few years back on the evolution of the widecab...that may answer your question regarding the first locos to be built with...

    road width?

Really depends on the type of road (highway v. local, urban v. rural). The 12' lane width is a good rule of thumb, though older streets usually have 10' lane widths, and modern highways around 14'. I typically "compress" my roads a bit to save space...usually figure on about 1/2 - 3/4" per...

    Anyone Models Mont-Tor cooridor?

The new layout concept I'm toying with right now would be to model the east approaches to Toronto Union Station (from Approximately Queen Street East to Bay Street). Not sure what era yet - I might try to do something that will let me move back and forth through time as I see fit.

How many actully run there trains?

No trains running at present...they're all boxed up until the basement is rebuilt.

    Toronto R/W show 13/14 March

Haven't been in a LHS for a while so I didn't realize the show was this weekend. Doubt I will be able to go.
