    History on an old engine?

It was made by either LifeLike or Model Power in the 1980s as a model of a Pennsylvania RR G5. (Model Power, I think). Definitely NOT AHM or Bowser. At any rate, put it on a shelf. It isnt worth bothering with.

    Vintage loco ID?

Then if its 8" long, its a TA. Which were used to power the Rocket.

    Vintage loco ID?

I'm still wondering about that locomotive; I wish Ray would post the length. Looking at the images, the TA body has a taper at the rear. The E units dont have the taper; since there are 2 sets of exhausts I guess it is an E unit. Wish we knew the length.

    Vintage loco ID?

As CapnTom stated, the EMD TA locomotive rode on 4 wheel trucks. If this is indeed a TA model, the 4 wheel trucks are correct. The addition of the paper sides are a definite possibility, given the lack of details. The Rock Island had TAs numbered 601 through 606, used to power the Rocket...

How do you make working classification/marker lights?

To add to what was already said about fiber optics...heat one end of the fiber to form a lens. If you use open flame, like a match or candle, you will form a bell shaped lens...like the mouth of a trumpet. If you use radiant heat like a soldering iron or cigarette, a round bulb will form. I...

    Arbour Model Allegheny 2-6-6-6

Arbour did have other locos in the line....a ten-wheeler (Sierra #3,IIRC). The biggest problem (I never owned one) is that the metal they were made of is similar to pewter, and is soft for model railroad purposes. Things wore out fast, and as stated above, they are no longer replaceable. I...

    Early 50's reefers

Wooden reefers were around right to the very end of the iced reefer. The industry used salt to control the temperature at which the ice melted (and therefore, the temperature inside the car). The salt-water mixture was allowed to drain through a hose at each corner of the car. This salt...

    Passenger car name change

The Walthers/Rivarossi cars are models of CNW cars. They won't be exact models of Wabash equipment anyway so I wouldnt worry too much about the exact shade of paint used on them. Disassemble the cars and strip them in 91% Isopropyl alcohol, then paint them with a squirt can of any paint that...
