Martin Johnson Mfg. Domino Style Bench Work

wayyyy late to the party... I'm way late to the party, but I'll put in my two cents for anybody else who may come along and wonder about this benchwork. I had the opportunity to get a good look at it at the Anaheim 2009 NMRA National. I was impressed. It's stoutly built, and the...

Thinking Of Converting To N Gauge

What are the good starter sets to look at? (I prefer steam but I may incoperate some diesel as well.) There are really only two good starter sets in N scale, possibly three. Kato used to sell a set that included an F3, but its out of production now, although still available in many stores...

    Looking for chassie's

To my knowledge, nobody currently makes them in N scale. The shouldn't be that hard to scratchbuild.

    BeezerV's N Layout

BeezerV, Looking real good there, I take it you've chosen to model CSX? :D As for the bumpedybump through the turnouts, it sounds like you may have gotten some of the early production C55 turnouts. When you have an opportunity, pick up one of the #10 turnouts, put some flex on both...

    Picked up some Kato unitrack

Kato makes a ramp that comes with a wierd little tool like thingy that's real handy for removing the Unijoiners. The ramp itself is mighty sweet as well. And yeah, love those Atlas tank cars, especially the Trinity Syrup cars.

    How Many Locos?

Why? I don't doubt that scale has a great deal to do with the number of locos an individual possesses. I'd be surprised if many of the garden guys have more than a half dozen!

    Cinch-Jones 302 series connectors

Our club has also mandated that all new construction use PowerPoles and the rest of the new "Recommended Practice" (RP), as we have adopted DCC. Perhaps the best thing to do is check with your local club(s), find out what they're doing. If they've gone to using Powerpoles, then use them...

    LifeLike experiences

The GP60s are reported to be some of the best locos LL has made. The only consistent complaint is that LL, starting from a clean slate, didn't engineer the thing as DCC ready. As a result, the frame has to be milled in order to install a decoder. As runners, they are very well regarded, and...

Its Monday 1-2-06, Weekend modeling accomplishments!

Built the MI-Jack Translift Intermodal Crane, still need to paint, decal and weather it. Also assembled 1 pair of tanktainers, then had to partailly disassemble them. Have to make sure the decals go on before the walkway! Did the second pair correctly, so now I'm at the point where one pair...

    Another ??

For straight conversions, figuring 60% will give you a somewhat roomier N scale iteration of an HO plan. How much you might want to inflate it beyond that is dependent on the track to scenery ratio you like, the space you have available, etc.

    Newbie,, Help needed

Go to a model railroad show, check stuff out, get a sense of what appeals to you. Likewise, head over to the library, pick up Model Railroader and back issues, again, to get a sense of what appeals to you. Also, recognize that model railroading is more of a communal activity than scale...
