For materials, I recommend using basswood. It's a bit more sturdier than balsa wood, but soft enough to work with easily. It also looks good painted or stained. As for tricks and tips, I highly recommend you build a jig. It's a bit more work up front, but it will ensure that all your "bents"...

Thanks folks. Yep Val saw it. I posted it while on the chats. Dick, the keyboard, sheetmusic, and sound board was printed out with an inkjet. I was fortunate to find a graphic on the internet that I used to get the contour and the images from.

Hey guys, I know I haven't been around much, but I thought I would chime in with this - my latest creation. It is an HO scale baby grand piano made for Val's HO Scale Hotel project. It's made completely from cardstock, posterboard, and paper over the course of 3 nights.

And here's a neat little trick for taking "night" shots: Get a camera with a delay timer. Because of the long time the shutters have to be open to get a good shot in the dark, any slight jitter will ruin the shot - even with a tri-pod. Using the delay timer, you can click the button and then...

This is a good thread! Lots of good advice on how to do this. Pretty much this is the method I use as well. If you are computer savvy you could even take a picture that is on angle and "stretch" the corners to make it "head on." Then you could print it out and make a scale ruler as mentioned...

They might. Look where they have posterboard and art supplies. It's a thick cardstock about 1/16" thick or so. You can get 3 big sheets for about 10 bucks. I havent even gone through one yet.

The building's made of illustration board - it's a kind of cardstock you can get at Office Depot. The bricks is just a graphic that I printed out on paper and using spray adhesive, attached it to the walls. I took a picture of the wall and straightened it out in Photoshop. Then I repeated it...
