    Layout Opinion

One note about the Walthers Grain elevator kit, I believe you can move it closer to the track, because part of the building is a shed-type structure that goes over the rails. That may give you a bit more scenery space there...

    life like diesel engine

Which one do you have? The short answer is "carefully" but you may need to gently pry one end with a micro-screwdriver... preferably a flat head type. Gentle is the key, but the LL locos I have are a VERY tight fit.

Newly painted and Weathered Locomotive... "Fantasy" Scheme

All the weathering on that locomotive is done with acrylic paints using brushes... but some of it drybrushed, some of it watered down and brushed a bit more carefully... I've not gotten into chalks just yet, but I may give it a chance soon. Yes... CBCNS is a real shortline. The colour scheme...

Newly painted and Weathered Locomotive... "Fantasy" Scheme

Making its debut on my layout today is CBNS 2937, an Atlas GP38 that I just finished painting and decaling. It's a fantasy scheme in that while the Cape Breton Central Nova Scotia Railway used to have this paint scheme, it never ran EMD GP38's in this scheme. On my layout of the Truro Junction...

    Kato Unitrack Program

Kato doesn't have software planning. They do have a purchasable template, but not a free software thing like Atlas does. Xtrkcad does Unitrack, but it's learning curve is pretty high, and I found that it doesn't have the whole library on their basic track in it, so it's limited in its uses...

    Truro Junction Layout in Progress!

Here we are... no video yet... I need to play with the raw footage a little bit... but here's an overview shot of the whole layout with the fascia applied. Since this picture was taken, the offending piece that sticks out I have trimmed back. Eventually the fascia will be trimmed down to form an...

    Truro Junction Layout in Progress!

I have a few updates sitting at home. I may be able to get to them tonight. I've filmed two more clips of trains moving on the layout as I have it, plus I've snapped a few more pictures as well. All the pictures are taken with my digital camera, including the videos... which account for their...

    Kato unitrack

I do periodically have some issues on the turnouts... but apparently that's standard for any track... just file the connection points down, and my SD70Mac won't go funny :)

    Kato unitrack

Short answer... yes... I use it, I think it's great, especially for a first-timer like me. The track is nearly bulletproof, and while a bit more expensive on the outlay, it comes with switch motors built right into the turnouts. While I haven't done it yet but will be doing within a few months...

Using Digitrax Block Detection on a Non-LocoNet DCC layout

It's certainly still not a for-sure type of thing, but having signals on my layout would be a nice touch. It's fortunately not all that big... I understand that the BD168 is actually a LocoNet master unit, which means it can run without a computer... but I would need the computer to get it set...

    Question for Canadian DCC users...

Credit Valley Railroad in Mississauga also has a good selection, as does Trains on Brant in Burlington... both carry n-scale decoders in significant quantity as well. I find their prices to be pretty good as well all things considered. Modeller's Choice is cheaper on some things, and the other...

Using Digitrax Block Detection on a Non-LocoNet DCC layout

I've been looking into the possibility of using block detection and signals on my layout, and am wondering what would be the best system to work with. I have MRC's Prodigy Express, which I am very happy with, but I do realize it's limitations, particularly in relation to not part of Digitrax's...

    Truro Junction Layout in Progress!

Not even remotely close! :) I''m still working on Subterrain. I have one bridge essentially in place, but a few others planned. They will have to wait for a little while yet. :)

I'm using the bulk pack of the Barber Roller-bearing truck. I model post 1970s, so that seems to be the most common type for my era. If you go to this part of the Micro-Trains website, it explains each truck type: http://www.micro-trains.com/n%20trucks.htm
