With the christmas break and finals coming up, I figured I might as well squeeze out a few more models. Hopefully, I might get another one after this done before year's end.

In the meantime, I figured I'd model something I figured close to myself and my line of work. The merchant mariners of the Second World War were nothing short of heroes, putting their lives on the line in the face of certain death, bringing supplies to the troops overseas.

So, this model of the Jeremiah O'Brien is my own little tribute to my forebears, bringing the supplies and sailing the seas in peace and war.

Looking good!!!! I've been aboard her years ago. One of those was a *steaming* day. They run the engine while tied to the dock. Once a year (Veteran's Day IIRC), they take it on a day cruise 'round Frisco bay with a Big Band aboard. It also went to the D Day event a few years back. Think it might have been the last ship to work Morse Code with the Point Reyes comminication station (now a museum and Amateur Radio Station). Not too far away is the Red Oak Victory. As her name implies, a Victory Ship. Mayhaps another model? The Red Oak has an Amateur Station aboard using the original equipment, including the original key Keep up the good work!!!!

As a P.S. the Red Oak is also a museum ship. Been aboard her once. The tour went from the bridge, all the way down to shaft alley.

Cheers, Eric KA6USJ

Thanks Zathros!! A bit more even keel at the moment. Will explain later.

Just an FYI, The O'Brien was used for the engine room scenes in the film "Titanic" Also here in the S.F. Bay Area is the WWII Sub Pampanito and the Carrier Midway. Very interesting exhibits on Apollo 11 including the isolation trailer. Also various planes and helo's. Darn..... Got to go to all of them, this time with a camera.

You are helping keep such an important piece of history alive and the memory of all those Merchant Mariners, who seem to be forgotten, and sadly, not even known of by so many. :)

Such a shame that the Merchant Marine still isn't as recognized as it should be...kinda makes me feel like a hack when I wear my dress uniform in public, haha......*scratches neck awkwardly*

This is amazing, numbers are approximate. The ration in percentage of "1 in 26" is what catches my attention. God Bless every one of them, and their families. :(

The number speak for themselves.
