LEGO Luke X-Wing Pilot!

Hi Davestar. just peeked in here for the first time. This is a great thread on a great subject. I echo Uyraell comment - informative, enjoyable and funny (and fun).

I don't know if it's mentioned in Revell-Fans thread on metallic stock, but one technique worth mentioning is testing the back of the sheet. If you can print on the back, mirroring the parts in some other graphic program and printing the pattern on the back of the page works very well.

Some photocopiers even have a mirror feature. A local print shop might be able to mirror it on to the back side of the sheet. Assuming the paper can handle being fed through a copier.

Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Hi, Steve! A pleasure to see you again! :) Printing on the back side is one idea I hadn't thought of because I used card which was coated on both sides. Great tip for those who use card which is coated on one side only! :)

Thanks for the tip Steve - I still dread working on that piece!
Been out on vacation but ready to finish Lego Luke! (Hopefully before the next movie comes out!)
Started back on the helmet. The part on the left fits the head snuggly already.

Ok, finally finished the helmet today. There were more tabs in the inner helmet and the two "blocks" on the outside of the helmet. Again I still recommend folding the tabs down and gluing them for extra strength.

The inner helmet pictured below was very snug so I cut a slit in the back of it so it would fit easier. With just the inner helmet on it reminds me of the "Sound of Music" or a Roman helmet...

Here is the completed helmet. Let's just say this one has seen a lot of action and is dented all over...:blackeye:

On to the dreaded saber handle... Of course my paper craft Lego Luke is so strong with the force he doesn't need a handle...

Is it just me or are all the sentences ending with ...:sorry:

This project is really coming together nicely!
As Steve said, this thread is informative, enjoyable and funny (and fun). I am enjoying watching it every step of the way!
I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

Hey, printing mirror worked.
Now the issue is the stuff is so thick it is falling apart when folded.
See the edges in the picture below. I suppose I can peal off the extra two layers...

You can either peal off the extra layers, or you can glue the layers together (for added strength).

Thanks Rhaven and zathros - it is taking tape and extra glue to keep these parts together!

In the meantime...

Some more of the handle parts. I must admit I am pretty close to just making a nice common gray handle...
Extra cutting required to remove chrome

5 months later...

All done. The chrome handle was awkward for me. I may go back someday and make a nice bargain priced light grey handle.
It was easier to cut off the chrome before folding. The last four parts of the handle are "wedged" in with no glue since they fit so snug.

A very fun project - I would recommend it to anyone - the light saber is the extra challenge due to the materials.

Thanks for following along.
