a few more mods, red ports under rear neck joining, and bottom side fins on each side of wingpits and better disruptor tubes, will post pics of assembly later tonight or tomorrow. ran out of ink and have to save up for a few weeks to get new cartridges. 2-2014 klingon-romulan bird of prey.png

thank you! the designer of this model did a great job, I blew it up a few sizes and accented the plating and brightened up the orange reds so it would come out on a grey colored card stock. the other details I just felt this model deserved because I really like his presentation of the bird of prey, when I can make the guns look more accurate at this scale I will. the ship's cannon has always confounded me, kind of a red plasma twinkling going on inside, and then what looks like a green blast comes out of the emergency dupe. all the rest shows the torpedo as being red and a lot less powerful. I wanted at least one to show the green photorp.

i would love to share the bling electronics with everyone but that would be advertising. but I used a bling orange disc electronic rotating micro led unit for a sports team about the size of a quarter. then I used a plastic diamond to get the lines. the fauceted diamond does that as a side effect. I glued it to the face of the e-bling pieces. and then a simple push molded dome from a plastic picnic plate over that. blinking leds, yellow for over the hanger [my preference instead of on the sides] and then white leds on the saucer port and starboardth dead red and green leds on top, and simple glue blobs on the bottom. the blinking shows thru. the windows I pushed thru with a mini flatnose screw driver and trimmed, white leds again, and the domes were again simple pushmolded this white plastic. a 470 resistor to a 9volt battery and it all lites up well. the nacelles sagged backward on this but I set them right and glued heavily, I used wooded sticks inside the struts but it needed the extra gluing. this model was resized and was a little under 30'' long. the camera shows more light than in real life, the nacelles are very satisfactory when viewed with the natural eye. I would like to build a lot more of Ron's 1701 to get my skills up on the paper model, the internal supports that were submitted a few years ago would really help. maybe a thick cardboard skeleton. black paper inside to block the light and cut to fit the domes and windows. thank you for the compliments and if anyone pms me I can supply the electronic info to them.

that's always been fun, but not satisfying for lighting effects. get some Christmas tree led lites, pull them apart until you have the small leds in the colors you select in front of you. now you will notice that some of the pin ends wiggle off easily just above the end. go ahead and wiggle those off. now you have your leds with slightly shorter ends. get some computer ribbon wire. peel off wires from one side 2 at a time and then use a lighter to burn off the rubber coating and pull it off. just about 1/4 inch. ok, now twist both wires to both pins on the led. you can paint over this, solder it, tape with duct tape or black tape. now when you got all your leds done this way, place them in the model where you want them to go. make a black paper box if you need it to block any lighting bleed over in the led area. run the wires thru the model and out of it thru a tube down thru a stand.
ok, now for the battery, you can find aa batteries or aaa batteris already with a box with an on/off switch on it. a 470 resistor on the black wire from the batteries, and then twist them up one by on as they lite up you got it right and twist them in. when done, tape, paint glue the join and put the batteries in the base or build one around it and you got it made.
i will help you learn to lite up your models, if you send me a pic or two of what model you want lighted i can write up a step by step instruction packet to simply light it up so you fry yer lites. pm me here at the site.
also Zathros might be able to give you some real schematics on this stuff. he's great at this.

i had to black and white the warp grills and put red in the nose cannon and also trim the anti-matter injectors so you can stack them on the rear position on the aft triangular pieces left and right. also wanted to mention the disruptor cannons are rolled thin and the bottom tuning fork type rod should be bent if you want on the end into the banding part.2-2014 klingon-romulan bird of prey.png

k, check out these variations on the bird of prey, here is a photo that inspired me from the next generation, I believe this dark olive version hated the Romulans, so they went with different colors, and also seem to keep their wings up, even when firing weapons. also I think this version is a lot larger than the voyage home one being probably bigger than a TOS D-7. and I threw in just a black and white hull. Klingon_K'Vort_class.jpg stng bw klingon-romulan bird of prey.png I will be cleaning this one up in my spare time so hang in there, but here you go now with this.stng olive klingon-romulan bird of prey.png
