Trek: Nebula Class Design Thread

Thanks bud. I'm at a point now where I'm creating textures from scratch for the pod or modifying the Galaxy class images more heavily to fit my pylons. But we're getting there.

No mate. I haven't messaged him yet though. I thought it best to add him first then introduce myself. But nothing yet. I've found some extra pics on Doug Drexler's Facebook albums though. They're useful.

Getting more done. I also made a change to the rear end. I'd interpreted some reference pics wrongly so needed to tweak it to add the odd shuttlebay in the engineering hull.

Also, more textures added.NebWIP5.pngNebWIP8.png
Don't all reply at once guys! It's getting hard to keep track. LOL! :D

Just out of curiosity, what software are you using for this? It looks great. I just wonder the software being used. You mentioned using the Lightwave models, and I wondered if you were using the end result, or the actual file, and what software you are using for modeling.

I always thought that from a structural point of view, these ships made the best sense. Some of the ships look too unwieldy.

The software I use is Metasequoia. The 3d models are my own creations though. "LIGHT WORKS" are responsible for the original images I've used to help me create textures for my 3d model. But it's all done in Metasequoia.

I thought so. UHU02 uses Metasequoia also. Very interesting program. Textures are my weak point, I am not ashamed to say. I am in awe of the textures you, D-Whale, BGT01 and a few others make. :)

He must have switched. A couple of years back he was using it. Oh we.., learn something new everyday. I have Adobe CS3 and CS5, gotta start playing with them. Oh, yeah, I wasn't wrong, may none of us ever be "wrong", I just wasn't right! :)

For texturing I normally use Paint Shop Pro. I've used it for years so know it better than other tools out there.

but you pre-texture your models also via Metaseq like i do! the final texture i do with Corel Photopaint and/or with Corel Draw! I work with it more than 10 years! I did the texture for the Klingon Ent-BoP and my Bajoran vessel (and of course the other models) with CPP

Yeah. Though I don't always go back over the texture after unfolding. It depends really on how it all looks after going through Metasequoia and then Pepakura.

While we're on the subject of creating textures.

I'm designing a Boeing 747 for my son who loves planes. For this one I'm pre-texturing it the way D-Whale describes. Applying basic textures in Metasequoia, then once it's unfolded I'll go over this again to add more detail and the colour. Here's basic textures on the main fuselage.

Though for something more basic like Thunderbird 3, I just applied final textures in Metasequoia and left them on for the unfold and eventual release. I didn't see a need to do any tidying up on this as i liked how the unfolded parts looked without any special treatment.

I think both methods are equally ideal for detailing a model. Though the pre-texture method is best for having lots of fine detail in high res parts sheets.
