Model of Meritorious Mention: Jans ALIENS APC M-557

Is this a build thread or a tutorial? :p

It started out as a build thread and it seems it has become a tutorial of sorts.

Here is the update on the build. The top will be removable so as to see the interior. I figure that it would be a shame to cover up all the details so with this build session I built and detailed the top covers.

I have to say that all of your build threads are tutorials in one sort or another. I find that I am learning something new with each and everyone of them (regardless of the topic). Not only that, but I GREATLY enjoy going through each and every one of them.
Your threads are an "ABSOLUTE MUST SEE" if anyone is interested in improving their skills.

The amount of work, effort, energy, and time that you have put into this model (as well as the level that you are taking it), is simple SUPERB!!!

Thanks for the kudos Rhaven. There are only a couple of my threads where I did not make a build thread on the subject,ie: my Batman Tumbler and a couple of others. I just have this habit of recording my build threads for my posterity as well as for the use of others. There are so many models out there that have very little instructions on the building process, like Ninjatoes and Eli Patoroch has basic instructions but in some of his models, a detail build will help in building a better model from great templates. Even Jan's ALIENS instruction are good but there are some complex problems that arises every now and then, even with the APC there are some complexities that show up too late in the build to start over. My threads are for the benefit of the community and in the hopes to help others build better models. One of the great artist out there has influence the way that I build, and that is Patero and his attention to detail that is remarkable. Someday I hope to achieve the great skills of his, so in the meantime, you all will have to endure my meager skills.

And now, for that sliding door and some extra details. The rail cannon will be for last, due to how fragile it will be and I still have to handle the main body a lot more. Enjoy and see you all next posting.:thumb:

I wonder what it would like if I took extra long time. I have a tendency to work a bit too fast sometimes. If it was a stock model, It would have been finished by now.

GREAT!..
sorry no other words this time :)

No need for words, your presence here is enough.

Oh, brother, that's why I love this place! What a thread, so many details... Great!

Thanks for looking in and there are still more details to come, i am not finished yet.

In the first photo you will see my first tyre. This will slow me down somewhat since every thread has to be done individually and glued individually. The turret from the plans and the reference material have a turret with no visible elevation process. with this version, I made the slots for the guns to elevate. I was going to make the guns do just that, but since I made the center tube, it would have been hard to place the mechanism for this effect. As is, the guns can be posed in the up or down position. At least, this APC can shoot down flying intruders. Again, this model is as solid as a plastic or resin model. There is nothing flimsy about it.:thumb:

More details. I am at a slow down for the moment, Only got two wheels finished. Those tyres are time consuming but There will be a build thread on it. If you happen to check out some of my tyre in my build thread, this will be the third version on making wheels.
It surprised me when doing the front tow hooks, that none of the references have any for the rear. For this version i will make some for the back as well. Also missing, is the trailer towing pintle, but I am not going to make one for this one.

The last photo is of a possible display of the vehicle but with a different apparatus to hold the top plates in the open position. Enjoy and see you all next posting.:thumb:

I'm hooked!

Silveroxide

Oh, boy, those hooks are THE THING (for the lack of a better word that joins fantastic, amazing, awesome, terrific and everything else in one)!!! I didn't quite follow the "attaching to the chassis" part, but I'll look again later, don't worry. Just got time for a glance now.
I must stand up in respect and give you my best salute, Sir!

That method of doing the hooks is also feasible in other builds as well. I am giving up all of my secrets with this build.

I think I'm going to come down and visit you, and stick that in my pocket just before I leave!! :)

There may be other models available but let me know so that I can lock up the viewing cabinet.

Me first! Me first!

The cabinet is protected by Smith and Wesson and a Colt.

Not if I beat the both of you there and take it myself!!!sign1

@ silveroxide: You are doing a PHENOMINAL JOB!!!

That does it, I am going to get in, start it up and park it in the garage.

I almost expect you to be able to fire it up and drive away when you're finished. The level of detail is incredible!

I am working on a secure key lock out so no drives it away.

I would much rather have the air bag pop out, and slap you silly and the seat belt will lock and constrict in place, the seat to pull up and firmly holding the intruder tight against the steering and suffocating against the air bag, while the radio sounds off at the highest volume the "Ride of the Valkyrie." For those of you who do not know Germanic Wagner music. It is the theme song from Apocalypse Now helicopter attack/insertion sequence. "God, I love the smell of napalm in the morning"

Well, here are some more updates, I have caught up with the photos and it will be slow going for a while. Those Tyres are very tedious indeed. As for those who are interested in looking at my work station, the last photos is where I make it happen. The photo shoot are in the dining room on top of a handmade cabinet serving station. Enjoy and see you all soon with more updates.:thumb:
