Mercedes Vito Delivery Van

Hiya everybody,

Anybody out there know of, or know where I can get, a paper model of the Mercedes Vito Delivery Van ?????

http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/...66980110-mercedes-benz-vito-mercedes_vito.jpgMercedes_Vito.jpg

I have been asked by my company to build a fleet of paper models to represent our real company fleet... (About 30 vehicles!!!!)

I would prefer a untextured (uncoloured) version, so that I can add the company colours and logo to the models.

Any help or pointers would be very much appreciated....

if one doesnt exist you will have a better chance of getting one designed if you can provide some good 3 view drawings or at the very least a good high res pic straight on from each side :)

Your company will have to get permission from Mercedes Benz to do that. There is a fine legal line which can get troublesome when a corporation uses the logo of another corporation without permission. Personally, I would stay away from this. Getting permission might not be a big deal either, especially if they are a fleet user. You may find that Mercedes already has something you can use, but, expect to be charged.

Three way drawings, as Chris Gutzmer said, are a definite necessity. If you find some, post them. You never know. :)

excellent point indeed given the commercial nature of the venture.

You would think as a Fleet user, they could come up with something acceptable. Of course, leaving off that Mercedes symbol could make the issue moot! :)

Legalize it!

This is going to be a project that will only be internal to our company, and will not be available commercially. The models will just add to a collection of other model vehicles (none from paper), that have the company livery, in the display case of the owner of the company. If I release the model to the world, then guess I might have legal issues with Mercedes.

Anyway, I did find this .....

Master!

I know!

And so you should!

If it wasn't for your friendly, enthusiastic, informed and patient assistance that you have offered me behind the scenes, I would not be where I am now with this. :thumb::thumb::thumb:

So, now publically, I thank you, very much, for your kindness.

It is people like you, R-F, that make this forum THE place to be.

A shadow of its true self...!!!

This exercise has been a HUGE learning curve with SketchUp.

I am going to make a simple model of this to start off with. It will consisit of the body, the chassis, 4 wheels and 2 wing mirrors.

I started with the body and chassis, and then used the unfold plugin for SketchUp. And amazingly, without too much trouble I managed to get a print of the 'flattened' body and chassis.

So, I cut it all out and did a very quick build of the body to see how it goes back together.
Not bad, but a hell of a lot of work to do yet .....

Very basic chassis....

And the body slapped together!!! :D

More soon......

What? Whazzat??? You have unfolded the model all by yourself and assembled a prototype???

Now that's taken me completely by surprise. Great work, Dan! :thumb:

And for the record: THIS time I DIDN'T help!:mrgreen::mrgreen:

I suggest the next steps should be separating and shaping the hood and closing the areas on the bottom of the chassis between the wheels to give them something to rest on. Then you might add some depth to the bumpers by laminating several pieces of paper to the chassis. Looking forward to your progress! :)

Ok, now I get the impression that you are psychic and are reading my mind....

I was looking at the prototype this afternoon and thinking that the hood is unique to the design of this van and I want to make it a separate piece....
As for the chassis, I am going to make a new version with a centre 'box' for rigidity and support, and also a place to attach the wheels......

(I showed the (crappy) prototype to my boss today, and his reaction was: jawdrop)

So, fully motivated, (and with spring/summer in the air, ;-) ) I will venture further forth!!! ;-)

There is a saying which applies here (once again): Great minds think alike..! :thumb:

Interesting. Looking forward to that.

If he reacted like that, what will he say or do when he sees the first textured version?

I think it's great that you took on modeling this. You should let your company "use" it, but don't give it to them. Let them know that this is your work and you are letting them use it. If they offer to buy it, by giving you a raise, or a sum of money, that's different. If you give it, they will want more from you, they could make it part of your job requirement. You did it after all after all, sometimes employers lose sight of these things.

I used to regularly get production bonuses at the major aerospace company I worked for. After a year, and some $1000's of dollars, my job description was changed to: "You are responsible for all phases of production on any part given to you". No more bonus's. No raise with the new job description either. Lots more work though! :)
