BSG Eastern Alliance Destroyer

Does anyone know if the Eastern Alliance Stasi Class Destroyer from BSG has ever been made into a papermodel ?

I've googled to find it but no go so far.

If anyone knows, please let me know ? :)

Cheers,
Elko

No, there is none at the moment. I'd love to see a paper model of it, too. If anybody is out there taking a shot at it, please let me know. I have many good pics which might be helpful.

That's a bummer, I realy like the design of that ship.

I hope someone will pick it up someday, it would be a realy nice addition to the excisting BSG fleet aalready available.

Cheers,

"Kitbash" one. A couple of F-14/15's,upscaled Thgunderfigher wings and bits-n-pieces from other kits is how they made he studio model IIRC.

Aah now your teasing me (again).
All those great models you make and now your hinting towards a Destroyer ?

I think I'm going nuts if I visit this forum to many times. There are so many great models allready here and in the make.. sigh, life is to short.....

Take your time friend, your Viper looks outstanding and first things fist :)

Cheers,
Elko

Let's say, it's on my todo list. But at the moment I don't have time for it. If anyone else is tackling it first, then the honour is his / hers. I'd be happy to assist when necessary.

Is that a challenge? Maybe with a little help from my friends...
Actually, no, it isn't. But if you take it this way..!

Kidding aside. The EAD is a VERY challenging model which is probably the main reason why a paper model of it hasn't been released thus far. The shapes are not that difficult because its origins are easily recognizable (F-15 bodies, Thunderfighter wings, Saturn V thrusters, Formula 1 scoops on the cockpit). However, the way the parts interconnect with each other is the main problem. There are pieces of two F-15 bodies assembled in an angle combined with scratch-built parts which makes it a bit difficult to tell where one piece ends and the other one begins. I have a big F-15 and a Saturn V plastic model kit which I could take for reference. The wings could be adapted from Martin's TF. And Jim's drawings look extraordinarily good. Here are some pics of the studio model:

So there is a good base to work with.

There is another fan-made EAD by David Kerin:

http://www.battlestarfanfilms.com/resources.htm

Even though it differs significantly from the version seen on screen it looks good enough to be seen as a Mk. 0.5 or light EAD. I have converted it into a SketchUp model (with textures) which could be used for unfolding. What do you think of that?

My friend, are you saying you ALREADY have it modeled and it just needs unfolding?

The model was made by David Kerin. I have converted it from its original format into a *.skp model for further editing and possible unfolding. Please note that his model is different from the one seen on screen (see attachments). It would make a very nice papercraft though.

But if you think of taking it as a basis for making the real Stazi class ship I have to disappoint you. It is much too simplistic and incorrect in some spots, so I recommend making the real one from scratch.

(EDIT: Pictures added.)

Hmmmmm...

I see... I did download the model from the site you've pointed me to, but I have no means to convert from .MAX... It's a closed format...
Unless I'm doing something wrong (that wouldn't be any surprise), I can't open it in Blender, let alone Google...:curse:
Do you have a way to contour the problem, or should I think on the other alternative (building one from scratch)? I think my modeling skills are a bit better than when I started, and everyday I learn a thing or two.
The alternative would take a lot of time, though. Suggestions?

Here it is in another format:

http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/BSG_EA_Destroyer;30870

Maybe this works. You need BC Mod Installer for extraction (available here: http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/;10490 ) and NifSkope for conversion into *.obj format ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/niftools/files/nifskope/1.0.22/ ) or one of the blender scripts for nif import into blender ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/niftools/files/blender_nif_scripts/ ).

.max is 3dsMax proprietary format, so you'll need 3dsmax to open that one.

I thought about that... But 3dsMax is not free...

Unfortunately, the file link is broken (at least for me). I did try it about five times, all with the same result.:curse:
Any other way to get the file?

I checked the links and they work fine for me except for the *.zip / *.tar/bz2 files. Try to get the *.exe file from here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/niftools/files/blender_nif_scripts/2.5.x/2.5.09/

If that doesn't work try another browser (Mozilla Firefox should make it).
