My next Mech Build

After building the Catapult from Mechwarrior Online I wanted to build another mech. This time its from the online game Hawken. It's a fun mech game that has a strong action focus and I love the art style. Thanks to the help of some people on this forum I have learned how to create orthographics from 3d files so I am now able to build much more acurately than previously and I was lucky enough to get ahold of 3d file for one of the mechs. I included a reference photo I found for the mech below so people know what it is supposed to look like. sadly the conept art is missing the lower arms but it should give a good representation.

I also got a swann morton scalpel for christmas and have to say that I will never be able to go back to Xacto knifes. The blades dont chip and they hold their edge for a long time. Plus they dont pop out of the handle like Xacto knives do. I highly recommend getting a scalpel to anyone who has been doing this hobby for a while.

Well after a weekend of work here is were I am at currently:

I use a scalpel myself, aswell as an xacto. I agree with your comments.
Scalpels are brilliant for doing precision cuts, especially on small pieces.
The only negative thing I can say about scalpels, is the blades tend to be a bit 'wobbly' in comparison to xacto blades. This, I think, is due to the thinner blade material and longer, thinner blade. This has caused problems in the past on long straight cuts where the cut line has been ever so slightly wavey.
So, I tend to use the firmer xacto blade for long straight cuts, and use the scalpel for precision cutting on small and detailed parts.

Looking forward to seeing more of your build. It will be a 'cut' above the rest.

You really want me to build that AT-ST dont you :). Its actually been on my list to build for a while I just have so many things on the list.

I got a little done last night. I finished the hatch looking portions on the back of the model and did some detailing. Right now I am debating if I even want to attempt to create rivets for this thing. It would be impossible to cut circles that small but I think a tiny square would work just as well.

Have another update on the progress today. I have most of the main body done now. I still need to add some accent pieces but Im about 97% there. After this I will start work on the lower torso. I will say I am beginning to have serious doubts whether the mech will be able to stand on its own. I may have to work in a mounting rod somewhere.

The model has been moving along pretty quickly. I finished the upper and lower torsos. I am using bits of wire in addition to paper to add some of the detailing. Now to move on to the legs.

little tiny beads might work for rivets, tweezers and a tiny drop of superglue would work! looking totally cool btw, I am not sure I would be able to handle all the fine detail work, what with poor eyesight

I finished the legs last night. I am happy with how fast this project has been moving. If I am lucky I will be able to start painting this weekend.

Looking nice and sharp...
And the painting starts :)

What glue do you use?
The glue what i have needs a time to set...
And in that time the paper Always folds back to his normal position, so i have to hold everything untill the glue is dry.

You did an OUTSTANDING JOB on this model. It does not look like paper at all.
If I had not seen the build thread, I would not have believed that it was paper.
Thank you for sharing your work with all of us.

Personally, I don't like the layout of this model much, but your build is really awesome. What an insane level of detail and a very nice finish !
Keep up the good work.
