So far, almost good enough

Howdy!

Still the green light shines on my WIP, but I'll have to admit that it's a shimmering, faded one...:cry: Well, I was able to attach the neck to the dish and the whole set to the body.
Here's how:
pic 1 - to see if it would work, as well as to have an idea of where I should glue the front neck, I first glued piece #57 to the saucer (or dish, whatever!), leaving the ends unglued;
pic 2 - I glued the front neck part to the back, but left one side OPEN, so that it would embrace the neck "bone" structure;
pic 3 - I glued the ends of piece #57 to the front neck, and connected the whole set to the body. Still have to improve on the glueing of the back of the neck to the body, but it's still acceptable.
BTW, there is an error in the instructions about the neck, but it's only a misnumbered piece.
Of course, I tested the body-neck connection a few good times dry-fitting it, and ONLY when I was POSITIVELY SURE, I went for the real thing.
Problem: the back part of the neck got positioned a bit forward than it should be, in relation to piece #57. Although it' s a bit off tolerance, I think I will keep going on. Comments?

Micahrogers...

I know it will sound A LOT STUPID of me, and it's late here, and I don't want to look in the internet, so... WHO is Thingamabob? And I don't need to tell you that I've never heard of Tingamajig...
Maybe gremlins? Man, I'm old!sign1:rolleyes:

A Thingamabob AKA Thingamajigey is a part or piece of something that, for the life of you, you cannot remember the name of. sorry for the attempt at comedy. Model is looking great still.

Rogerio my friend, I downloaded that last pic and used VuePrint Pro to blow it up to just the beginning of pixelation and I can still barely see the gap that you say is out of tolerance. Keep up the Great work on UHU02's model.

It's all good!

Micah, please, don't worry. AT ALL. On the contrary, if I have made you feel embarassed, please, DO forgive me. I speak a little English, maybe a little above average (just an eeny-teeny bit), but do confess that I have never ever heard of these words.
That being said, I must actually thank you AND ShadowHawk for the clearings and new words that I have added to my poor vocabulary.

Rogério

P.S. I always heard people saying something like "Where's that what's-its-name thing that I use to..."

I'm looking at it, but not seeing anything. Your video window couldn't make it past the filter at my work:cry:, so I'll have to watch when I get home. Sorry!:eek:ops:

My Friend Rogerio, no apology necessary. Your "little English" is much better than my No Portuguese. I am to thick skinned to be embarrassed by something as simple as my southern drawl, I just t5ried a little humor that "didn't translate" .

All ahead full, let's finish this thing.

Start your engines!

Hi,

I've started working on the nacelles. Closing the first piece was a bit hard without tabs, so make sure you pre-shape it using a pen or rod, or something like that. BTW, I haven't seen anything on UHU02's site about this part of the assembly (NOT COMPLAINING, JUST POINTING IT OUT).
Of course, after glueing ant butt-joining, the usual tape reinforcement, due to paper tension. I've read a thread on shaping pictures using water, wouldn't it ruin the pattern? Although I use laser printing, I think that might be dreadful...

The video is something that every Trekker and trekkie must see at least once in their life time.
I hope you enjoyed it.

Your progress is coming along nicely.

The "right" way...

Hello,

I have finished assembling the starboard (hence the title) nacelle's body, and it was not so hard. I guess the hard part comes now!
First things first:
1 - DO pre-shape the body, it will make your work A WHOLE LOT easier;
2 - I cut off the tabs from part of the "bones", but left the ones in the small, rounded ones - but I have compensated it with large ammounts of glue in pieces B-1 and B-2 (#S-34 and #S-35, respectively);
3 - to know how deep the "bones" have to be pushed into the nacelle's body, apply the same rule that we used in the body, which means, align the first rounded shapes (pieces #S-24 and #S-25) to the seam between pieces #63 and #64;
4 - you DO NOT need to laminate these skeleton pieces, because the great master UHU02 already prepared a double set of each. All you have to do is glue one another, and they're laminated AND reinforced. Simple as that.
Here are the pics:

I forgot to mention one little thing: in the instructions, it looks as though pieces #80 and #81 are related to the STARBOARD NACELLE... Well, they're NOT. They belong to the PORT nacelle; the ones for the STARBOARD are #82 AND #83.
And cutting pieces #81 and #83 can be a little tricky, but if you take your time and use a metal ruler as a guide to cutting, you'll do fine.
REMEMBER: IF I CAN DO IT, ANYONE CAN!
Cheers,

Hi,

Assembling the front top of the nacelle (piece #61) was a test of patience AND skill. Not that I'm so skilled, but it almost made me give up a few times, and wait until tomorrow to restart. On the other hand, finishing it was a tremendous feeling of accomplishment.
The first difficulty is that it bends in two orthogonal directions, so you have to take your time to assemble it. And DO take time, SPECIALLY if you want to do it without tabs -second and always present difficulty.
SUGGESTION: assemble it from back to front, and the reason for it is quite obvious... smaller to bigger curvature, or, if you want, the curvature radius become smaller, meaning its rate will turn higher, making it harder to assemble. Glue piece #60 AFTER you've finished #60; worked best for me that way.
To glue it to the nacelle, I found it easier to attach first the front part, then the back, then the sides, ONE AT A TIME. Pay attention to the angle between the thin black stip and the nacelle itself; the strip has to be orthogonal to the nacelle surface. I did an almost adequate job on that.
Here are the photos:
1 - the first photo shows pieces #60 and #61 assembled together;
2 - the second shows the back of the set, with some paper reinforcements to hold for the tension (I thought paper scrap reinforcements would hold better once they were glued); and
3 - the last one shows them already glued to the nacelle.

From top to botttom

And now we can see the front bottom piece (#68 ) both before and after being glued to the nacelle. The best thing to assemble it is just like the post about piece #60, EXCEPT that you should do the front for last. So, glue first the back, then the sides, from back to front (the front edge isn't actually glued, it's an "inlet").
If the slots do not look aligned, but you're sure you've glued it to the right place, do not worry. When the support piece come into place, it will correctly form piece #68 and align. That's the beauty of a UHU02 :inw: model!

Thanks, micah! You always have kind words... And what're you gonna do next? I like your work... Or are you taking a well-deserved break? I think I'm gonna do that when I finish up this Enterprise...:mrgreen:
See ya!

It's starting to come together realy nice Rogerio !!

The Nacelle looks real sharp and crisp.
I am certainly going to use your thread as a refference when I build Uhu's Enterprise.

But what's this ? :)

"... Or are you taking a well-deserved break? I think I'm gonna do that when I finish up this Enterprise... "

Naaaah you'r not gonna do that :)
Papercrafting is waaaay to much fun and there are so many fantastic models out there waiting for you to build them :)

I am realy anctious to see the final assembly of your Enterprise I'm sure it's gonna be a winner !!
