Drop Pod

Hi there,

i built Drop Pods for my Space Marine army as first project in papercrafting ever. Due to the use on the Gaming Table i used Plasticard instead of Paper. The plans are from an old White Dwarf, the size is equal to the size of the Cybot Drop Pod from Forgeworld.

Have a look:

We prefer paper but do allow people to model in other mediums as long as the realize the realize the are in a Paper Card model forum. Looks Great!

Didn't know about paper hardener.

On the gaming table i dont want to loose my models due to an accident with a rulebook.

Plasticard is a lot harder... How hard is paper with hardener? Like plasticard :?:

Btw thanks for the german translation :thumb:

Could anyone point out what plasticard is? I considered builduing some additional transport fir my GK army but hesistate, as I thought paper would be to thin and easily destroyed

Plasticard is a thin styrene plastic. I get mine from Walmart and buy the large plastic for sale signs. For my models I use 65lbs card stock from staples office store. It's plenty sturdy enough especially when laminated with a second layer or poster board.

If you start getting into chemicals to harden paper, you will lose sight of what the hobby is about. You are better off laminating that paper in question, and building a proper support on the inside. Paper will force you to engineer the final product rather than rely on the brute force of the material. Just an opinion, it's just that a lot of chemicals used for this purpose are every bad for your lungs and have an accumulative affect. If you can smell it, you are accumulating it in your body. :)

I guess I will have to try some morr models before i can decide what exactly i will do about the sturdiness

Anyway, thanks for the answers!

Check out some of my build threads, and you will see how I laminate the card stock to the desired thickness. once I make the parts thick, I treat it like styrene and build it. Some of my parts are very thick and I also use paper sticks, like the ones used on lolipops or ear swab sticks. You will be surprised at what you can do with paper.

Awesome build. Which Chapter markings are you going to put on them? Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.

I think that there are newer templates that would allow you to build one that opens and has the cover fire missile launcher and bolter as well. THis forum is awesome for the 40K Universe and the designers are amazing. Armorman comes to mind as an awesome resource as well as others. There is an entire section dedicated to Warhammer 40K.

Lollipop sticks, toothpicks, Balsa wood, are all unrealized paper products, they should be used more often than they are. Nothing worse than a model warping overtime. :)
