hello all,

i am going to be in the uk for about 4 days between feb 9 and feb 13. i will be visiting family but would like to take in a maritime/aviation museum or two and drop by some hobby stores. i will be in london, hereford, glasgow and edinburgh. any suggestions? i read that raf cosford has a ju 52. any shops in the above cities stock card models? also interested in hobby tools especially ones made and only available in the uk. e.g. proops brothers chopper. any hobby shows happening during that time?

any input will be highly appreciated.

I don't know if they're still around, but the Canals are seriously overlooked. The U.K. is a beautiful country, just stay away from the tourist centers, there isn't anything there worthwhile.

Hope you have a great time! My wife and I have always dreamed of a trip to the UK; England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales. Maybe when we retire.

The Moors are beautiful, as a town called Glossop. Best traveling on the rails when you can. The view of the countryside is magnificent. The Fish 'n Chips are just plain awesome!

Unfortunately, the railways were privatised and now fares are so high it looks like the company phone number. However we are still a friendly lot and I sincerely hope you enjoy your visit to our little island. My own town of Liverpool has a maritime museum along with the working docks and the world famous ferries, just saying.

Hi There,
If you are interested in aviation museums, based on your itinery, you could take in both the RAF museums in London & Cosford (the latter is easily accessible from Hereford). Both museums have a wide range of aircraft on display spanning from the turn of the century to the modern day. I live within a few miles of Cosford and have made many visits (There is always something new to see). Sadly I missed out on the London one because the wife and kids were not as keen as I was last time we were there.
If London is anything like cosford you could get round the whole museum in two to three hours (unless you get too involved with the details of any of the exhibits or end up talking to the very knowlegable staff)
Best of all they are both free, although on my last visit in October last year I found they had started charging for parking, but it still works out as outstanding value for money.
If you get chance you wont be dissapointed, and Yes Cosford does have a JU52 on display. But despite my love for WW2 warbirds, I have got to say my favorite is the Cold War exhibition with many aircraft form that era displayed is some very creative ways (such as a Lightning hanging nose up from the ceiling!), and the only place you can stand and look up into the open bomb bay of the beloved Vulcan bomber.
If you have not already seen it, take a look at this link which gives an outline of whats on show at both sites.

Let me know if there is anyhthing else in the Herefore area that might interest you, and I may be able to pass on any experience I have had.

Richard
