please tell me what you think, I am playing around with ways to create 360 rotatable views of my models. Here are the results from an iPhone app (arqball) I like it except that their price is prohibitive (free for 5 shared models then 20$ a month for more). But I wonder if you think this kind of approach is interesting, I have found a few better priced piece of software (not on the phone) and I can try them.

That is really cool!! I had no idea that existed! It's expensive though. i bet someone ends up offering something like this free. I am going to send a P.M. to our I.T. guy and see if something like that can be added on here. :)

This is a really GREAT way to display a model. I have to agree that it is quite expensive (especially for a hobby like this)

You are also doing a GREAT job on your model as well.

I think that an option (like that) in this forum to display one's work is a GREAT idea. I would definitely use it (and I think that there would be a great deal of others that would as well).

You definitely have my vote for it. :thumb::thumb::thumb:

I sent in the request, I have no idea if that is possible or what's involved. We'll see, fingers crossed! :)

As the arqspin would be too expensive to maintain for most of us I am looking into alternate solution, in particular the object2vr software. It is still expensive at 65$ but it is a license for the soft which will then let you create as many spins as you want there are 3 output formats possible, html5, quicktime vr and flash. For the html5 the resulting output is an html file, a bunch of images a javascript file and an xml.

I am working on the chin mounted assault cannons. I have done 2 different designs, the one in the template and one where each barrel is represented by a piece of toothpick which is then painted. I have started on a third one where the barrels are rolled pieces of paper ( a couple of barrels made that way are shown on the picture).
Between design 1 and 2 my daughter said she thinks the second one is better (which has led me into trying the 3rd one) what do you think?
Note that the pictures doesn't show too well how geometric the original (1st design) cannons are, the whole barrels assembly (6 barrels) is a textured hexagonal based prism

The second has a nice texture, but the first one has a nice clarity. I think without being there, it's hard to tell, from a photographic perspective, I like the top one,, you may bit have to go through all the tube rolling. I don't know? :)

Will be rolling the 5 other tubes this evening. The top one looks better in picture than in truth as the hexagonal prism effect doesn't show much on a flat picture.
However I agree that the printed texture looks clearer and cleaner. Hence the version with rolled uP tubes.
Rolling them tight is not easy though

Really thin paper printed with the pattern glued over a toothpick might be an option. :)

No because the toothpick is already too thick. But just rolling by hand work. What I should probably do though is roll a longer cylinder and then cut it up

Get micro screwdrivers and roll thin regular paper around it. It should give you the desired effect. Heavy weight paper is hard to roll at that size. Also, paperclip come in different sizes as well, which can be used to roll the paper around it. I find it hard to roll cylinders that small by hand as well. Keep up the build and see you around the forums.

detailing of engine: separating compressor blades. Unfortunately the blades are 2 fragile for edging to work well the way I do it (with a felt pen)

The blood raven stormtalon is done.
I have made a new 360 out of it, please take a look here
http://www.bcerrina.com/stormtalon_spin2/config-storm2.html
In the meantime Here is a picture (extracted from the 360).
Compared to the Ultramarine version here are the differences (other than colors):
1) transparent cockpit which can be opened (to be glued once a qualified pilot is found and painted and installed)
2) right assault cannon modeled with multiple paper barrels
3) VSTOL thrusters have little vanes opened on the side
4) main engine compressor has individual blades modeled
5) new (better) way of modeling the rivets (push on them from the other side of the paper to make a bump
6) (this is a regression) previous version had many detailed very slightly raised by an applique of the same motif. This wasn't worth it because the 160g paper is still too thin for it to be noticeable

Looks great, now for a grey wolf version! I downloaded the plans and converted them to jpg's. This way I can play with the parts. I still have a bit more to go on my chariot but I will get to this one soon enough. That manned walker is still on the table and I got enough info to make the converted defiler legs for it as well as the swivel base. So what is next? waiting patiently for your next venture.
