Howdee, my friends!

Now this is gonna be a BIG one. A REALLY BIG one. A 1:32 scale model of the new BSG hangar bay!

Everything began with a thread I was reading here somewhere (I suppose it was the "Jay's Galactica is lonely" thread) in which some members were talking about making a replica of the new BSG hangar bay. I don't remember the exact outcome of the discussion but what I do know is that such a model has never been released to date. With growing SketchUp skills I took an original ZOIC rendition and made a rough 3D sketch of one segment featuring the hangar bay door which you can see here.

When I first posted this pic in the "Jay's Galactica is lonely" thread many fans were intreagued by this and wanted to see more, but due to other projects this one was on hold. Until now.

Our good friend (and moderator) Rhaven Blaack was the one who kicked my butt once again (but very gently, without hurting me ;-) ) to revive this project and to finish it. Moreover, he offered his help and advice which I greatly appreciate. According to the motto "never change a winning team" we joined forces once again to make a display diorama for your 1:32 Vipers, Raptors, Landrams - and Thunderfighters (!) . I hope you like what we are doing!

Here are some views of the more fleshed out CG model. Enjoy!

I am glad that this project has resurfaced again. I built one a while back and was followed by "Commander Adama". Again, back then, there was little info on the build with the exceptions of pulling graphics from the series. I recommend to go to "illuminati.com" There you will find some representations of the hangar bays as well as one from the original series. They are full of useful reference material. They have a BSG section for members only but the registration is free. Not only do they have reference material but also some of them are illuminated. Enjoy and hope to see what you come up with. See you around the forums.

 Is this possible? Talk about Wow factor and functionality. This would be great for storage of models. I could see a great display case coming out of this!:thumb:

@Silveroxide, great link, I am always amazed at what you dig up! :)

I have the same engine hoist shown at the Flckr website link. The hydraulic ram is exactly the same. These are being knocked out all over the world. It is rather amazing that they would show up on the other side of the galaxy! That shows purpose in creation.

S.T.O. almost had it right. :)

Silveroxide, Thank you for the link. I am certain that the garage equipment will come in very handy for the service stall.

To Zathros: The base will be approximately 100 x 70 cm big, so there will be plenty of storage room  !

I have a fan? Wow... thanks a lot!!

Did you went to the SpaceDays 2012? In that case you should have seen me, I was the guy who showed the huge SULACO in progress (the Jan Rukr one).

Oh, no, unfortunately (bad health at that time)... But I read everything about it I could find in the web. I'm totally blown away by your Sulaco. And I'm always counting the seconds till the next give-away model is available on paperaviation.de. I know that you made the cover art for Martin's TOS BSG Shuttle. GREAT WORK! I couldn't have done it better. :thumb:

Well, I made not only the cover art for the BSG shuttle, but for ALL SpaceDays Giveaway kits, as I'm the one who is responsible for every printing stuff regarding the SpaceDays. Oh, and I'm also the one who actually prints it, as I am the site manager of a small printing company in Duesseldorf.

So... why wait for a download? Just give me your adress, and I'll send you the offset printed version of the 2012 model (the Lunar Rover from "Moon") free of charge.
