Just started playing around with this. I have designers block on some other models so thought maybe this would unblock me?

It looks like you are off to a good start with this design.
It looks like it will be a very interesting model to build.
I am looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Thanks Rhaven!! I have to do the usual compromise of making sure the parts unfold, and the accuracy can be maintained!! :)

Thank You Ruben! :)

Allen, I hope these pics can show you some more detail, it seems like every picture I look at is different!

Haven't done any bolts, rivets or panel lines, even the color is tentative., but the basic shape seems O.K.. :)

Dang........ I've got to get another copy of this movie.

Zat....... it looks fantastic........ what software do you use to design? I've not seen any pictures like that before.

Still plugging along with Rhino 4.0. I am getting a little better. Have picked up some new techniques and kept away from bad habits. I find Rhino intuitive. I think that is a personal subjective thing. I see people make fantastic models with Paint!

The movie is just so excellent, it is still relevant too. Also, just so darn pretty to watch!

I am slowly, very slowly, working on the Douglas World Cruiser. I have started that model, and had to restart it many times as new data came up. :)

This a most interesting plane (to say the least).
The nose of the plane looks like a Derringer two shot pistol.

Regardless of how it looks in the movie, what you are doing with it now looks GREAT!
I will be following this thread closely.

Hi Zathros,

I have the privilege to own a model of the gunship -made by formania - (my friend searched high and low when he was in Tokyo last year for it), if you need reference photos I'll see what I can do... ;)

In any case, google images has quite a feww pics - just search for "formania gunship"

I am basing the plane on the nose being a Derringer! I think the nose tilts too, especially if you watch the movie. Or, it's just drawn very inconsistently? :)

And I'm sure there are also some differences if compared to the manga version

The Formania is a completely different animal. In reality, it bears no resemblance to the movie and tries to mimic the Manga, which it does rather well, though even in the Manga version, some of the wing tip shots make the wings look like more of a birds wing, especially the tip. I don't think the Formania, with it's jet exhausts and huge rivets and the like is not the look I am going for. If I had one, I would definitely be running around the room making the appropriate sounds though.

I have been thinking about doing the Formania one. I would start that from scratch to be that plane. As for now, I am sticking with the simple one from the movie. They are quite dissimilar. Thanks, and yes, there are tons of pictures of the Formania one. In reality I would prefer shots from the manga one though. Thanks! More pics later, I redid the whole nose section. :)

Some more pics. Redid nose and windows, and transition into nose of the craft.

Right now, I just address it as glass.:p

I plan to go into the toxic Jungle and garb a couple of dead Aum eyes lenses, there really strong. If that doesn't work, I will recycle some plastic blister pack and just make a quick vacuum mold using two part steel epoxy. I'm glad you like it. Many touch ups to be made. I am going to start on the frame now, then we will see how it all comes together, then go onto the wings. :)

I have to do your Savoia so I can get the second level model!! I plan to write a program for the Silhouette Cameo, so I won't have to cut it out, if it fits! :)

Some more pics, inching my way forward. :)
