Cinedome or cinedrome?

Do you think you could post a picture for reference? Is this a geodesic structure your referring too?

I just googled "cinedome" and "cinedrome" and they seems to be popular names for movie theaters, but I suspect that's not what you're looking for. Can you give us anything else to go on?

Seems I got the name wrong, it was filed under Cinadome.

I found a link that has a picture, but no link to the model. I don't know if it is the same one you are speaking of. It may be someone else who modeled the same thing. Having the same name on the billboard is way too coincidental though. I could find nothing else. This was posted in that forum on April of 2012, so the trail may still be hot.

This is how the guy said he made it:

Here is a combination of Walthers and Rix buildings that are modeled on the real Cinadome Theatre in Kingman, AR. You can Google an image search and turn up photos of the real thing.

The Walthers Quonset is a smaller prototype so cutting the lobby into the side (as the prototype) would not have resulted in a plausible size for the building. I added the Rix machine shop to the end for the lobby. The lower front and so on were scratched from bits of styrene.

The poster cases have glass fronts. I broke the glass on the Bonsai poster case and mended it with duct tape. When it is sited on College Street it will have sidewalks, parking, lot lights, bike racks and all the stuff of a going concern. The signage is appropriate for August of 1984.

Hah! It was a movie theater. That's about the most pathetic little theater I've ever seen-- and therefore a kinda cool model.

I wonder what the dimensions of this would be?

Hi! Ian's quest lead me to join up after rooting about. Most of the questions have been answered. And some I can't answer!

My recollection of size is that there were essentially two common sizes used by the mil in WWII. The Walthers Quonset is a model of the smaller very common size. The real Cinadome is made from a warehouse size Quonset. Much larger than my model. Thus the block addition for the lobby and restrooms. Although everything on this model is small for a movie theater, it is in the ball park. I followed the look and feel of the prototype but it is not a model of the prototype. I did model the entry and signage from the prototype. (Well, except for a few favorite movies from the summer of 1984 that would play in a college town.)

This would be easy to do. I am so busy, I haven't had time to look up an dimensions!

Later today - evening? I'll post more photos which will give you a better look at the proportions. Some head on elevations. The model is buried in a poorly marked box from moving a few months back.

Any data you can supply will be fine. My weak points are graphics. Maybe we can bash something together.

Here are more photos before the parking area, sidewalks and other details were added. The Quonset is 40 feet by twenty feet in HO scale. The addition is about twenty wide by thirty deep.

I do have a file with the all the signage I used in both HO and N scales. However, I don't want to provide a JPG since the quality isn't top notch or even seventh notch. I'll think about how to post or provide that file.

It's weird how the software flags some files. It was down last night for maintenance and I missed it. Those pictures give great reference. If you could give me the length of the Quonset hut, the height, and the same for the building, I should be able to extrapolate the rest. If you have a set of vernier calipers, that would be cool. Accurate measure measurements opposed to a scale next to it would be highly appreciated.

If that seems much, straight on shots are the best. Perspective (shots at an angle) are really hard to work with. Great for detail, but straight on shots from all sides (they don't have to be the same size), will allow me to scale them and make an accurate model. :)
