Any model this big will show errors far easier. Persistence pays off. It's worth making some parts over. The biggest problem is accrued intolerance. If the first bend is off, then no matter what you do, it will throw off the rest of the bends and the part will be off, and the sides or tops won't fit properly. This is a real problem when making aircraft, the main wing can easily twist and sometimes this happens when the glue is drying. Just keep plugging along!

What's messing you up on this model are those tabs. Take one piece, cut the tabs off, and make L-shaped tabs to replace them. Then watch how nicely it goes together. Regardless, it's looking good!

You can do it. I think with this model it is best to cut off the tabs and make your own. Paying attention to the folds is absolutely critical!

When I built mine, I printed out extra part sheets and created overlapping parts to cover joints, seams and connecting parts. This added some nice raised detail to keep the RY from looking too flat. If I were to rebuild her, I would re-create the lattice part above the reactor thing with styrene stips and use the paper part as the guide. I used super-glued cardboard, and it was a pain.

That is some of the best advice I have ever heard. You tackle two problems at once. It would be a great feature to have this methodology designed into the model, done right, it could make the seams almost impossible to find! I may be borrowing this idea! :thumb:

Yeah, it works pretty well. I covered most of the seams on my Republic Gunship and was very happy with the results. I like to tweak where I can.

It's an excellent modeling technique. If people designed models to be printed on thinner paper, and printed parts piece with edges to be folded back under, their would be no white lines either! It could make for a very convincing model of whatever was being modeled.

can someone tell me why the lower surround does not mate up it acts like it is missing a line that needs to be scored.anyone know what i'm talking about?
