Update: the main reactors are finished ... they are easy to build ... very comforting, after the shield generators

Another update ...

The docking bays and reactors are finished ...
Now for the lower hull :D

Well thank you Zathros and Milleniumfalsehood :)

I'm but a novice with a few experience in this field, but I just love the screen-to paper-to tangible object process of papercraft.
And the fact that the final object is made with low-tech tools takes us back to ... well, crafting, obviously, in the most noble sense

(sorry I'm getting a little carried away, I'll get back to scoring, cutting, gluing ... awing :))

I like to hear the experience. Please feel free to share it. It offers much inspiration into what is being done. It is an important part of the whole process. :)

Update: Bottom's up! ;)

The lower hull structure is complete, time to add the bays, the solar ionization reactor ...
And then ship it all to the assembly line, Kuat Drive Yards style!

Almost there!!!

Well it's past 1AM here , and I have two finished halves of a Star Destroyer
(not really finished ... I'm keeping the turbolaser batteries for later)

I think I'll assemble them tomorrow, unless I take a little break, this step is crucial!

Very nice work! From the angles of the hull, it looks like you're build the Imperial I Star Destroyer. I'm doing the II, though since there is a new model being worked on for the X-wing Alliance Upgrade project I'll probably unfold that one and issue it as an upgrade.

That is incredible! The detail you ave added is outstanding! :thumb:

Thank YOU for this model! ;)

By the way, the file I downloaded is called "Imperial_II_Star_Destroyer", so I guess we're starting a fleet between the two of us :)

Thank you.

Again, I am but the hands here. Credits should go to milleniumfalsehood, who unfolded a very nice model.

I adapted a few things for my build, I'll add comments in the download section.
By the way, how to comment a downloadable file?
When I go to the model's page, I can rate it, but the comment section is empty, I can't see any editable zone there ...

Well who am I fooling, I couldn't wait to assemble it, could I? ;)

A few notes:
- I didn't get the bow straight ... when drying, that part distorted a little, giving the model a strange look
The paper still can be bended a little, which could make things a little better
It could work since that part of the model is the two hulls sandwiching vertical panels, and the whole structure can be sheared to resemble a rectangle ...
But that's a part I'm not too satisfied with!

- I had to adapt several of the parts that connect to the upper hull's "inverted V" shape (cutting the connecting area to shape)

- Due to the rear part's slanted structures, all engines but one had to have their base cut to follow the angle

- You can see a gap where the stern's main supporting tower joins (or should join) the upper hull ... this is an error of mine, when I had to heavily modify that part so that it actually fits

- On several occasions, I cut the tabs, their width added unwanted volume, and induced misalignment
I think I'm going to build my models without the tabs now (or with the tabs behind both parts to be assembled)

- I reinforced all hull parts with a second layer of paper

- Yup, turbolaser batteries are still missing ;)

And once again, a big applause to milleniumfalsehood for a great model, that brought me hours of fun :thumb:

Before closing ...

Next to my son's mini Lego version

That part I'm happy with :)

Where's the Tantive IV? :)

Next to a full size keyboad, for scale

The infamous gap

And a few more shots

I'm grateful to you for building up one of my models, as well. It's great to know that something I released is buildable (I got the same feeling when Wedge built my Moldy Crow and did such a good job with it). I am sorry you had to modify it; I really wish I could have modified the model more, but when I tried it the model's textures would go crazy because they are UV textures and are attached to the points of each face.

But in any case, glad you enjoyed it! :thumb:

It is coming out awesome though, isn't it! :)

Thanks Millenniumfalsehood

Thanks mate for designing this beaut ,:thumb: i'm just almost finish the Rebel Venator Star Destroyer. All i have left to do is the fine details & the engines , cockpit area. I used 3m balsa to strength up the top & bottom shell of the ship. Then i used Styrofoam packing inside after i closed the two half of the fuse together.

Overall of this kit that i thought it might of been hard to do but it's was easy to build & well plan out too. There was some tabs were missing on the parts but no biggie about that all easy fix there.

Anyway thanks again MF, i can't wait to finish this one & start on the Imperial I Star Destroyer next.

My head is exploding due to the awesomeness of these builds. Great work, guys. Thanks MF for your hard work getting theses models to the masses.

Can somebody tell me how to find the download section? I've got some free time coming up and need to build one of these SD's. Thanks.

Nevermind.....I found it.

Well this is just great . . . I lost all my paper model files. Again.

I was able to recover 95% of them because they were backed up (I learned from the last time), but among the files that were lost were the models of the Imperial ships I was working on. I neglected to back them up as well.

I think it happened when I was transferred files from my old computers. I had one laptop, then my dad got a new one and gave it to me since I was at the limit of my computer's HD space, and as soon as I was done with that transfer they decided to just outright buy me a brand new one. Yay, more transfers . . . But when I went to go back to work on the star destroyers, I couldn't find the files. What's more, I also couldn't remember what programs I downloaded to get the files in the first place.

I'll see if I can get them back, but right now I've got other things I'm doing like a Star Wars crossover novel that'll easily be about 140,000 words when it's finished. Oh, and studying engineering at Wichita State University (one of the top three engineering schools in the country, btw).

Looks like the gods have smiled on me. I found all the models I thought I'd lost in an old external drive! :D

Anyway, I've begun working on the Nebulon-B, and it's going pretty good. I've decided this time to put more work into making the model more builder-friendly, so I'm separating the parts into logical sections and adding white areas to serve as gluing surfaces. I'm also lucky in that tonight I can stay up all night unfolding the model because we've got a HUGE snowstorm here in Wichita and school is cancelled tomorrow. :thumb:

EDIT: Also, I'm doing three scales. 1:2700, 1:350, and 1:270 for the X-wing Miniatures Game. :D
