My 1/144 International Space Station

Hello guys and gals, I realized that I really hadn't posted much of my builds on here so I decided to post my International Space Station I have been working on. This was built for a friend and was kinda a rush job. It has a total of less than a month building time on it. I still have a few little fiddly bits to put on it and also the new updates from Alfonso. I wish I would of taken pictures of his face when I took it to him, it was priceless because he didn't know I was building it for him. He had seen my 1/100 scale one and mentioned he would love to have one. So out of the kindness of my heart and after saying I would never build another (because I built the 1/100 three times already) I decided to build it for him.
It isn't perfect but he loves it any ways.

Awesome build inky. I'd love to have seen a pic of your friends face. It would be priceless. Even at 1/144 the size is still impressive.

Yes Steve I to wish I would of taken a picture of his face. He is 15 years old and was in aww, he had a grin from ear to ear for a good hour.

Even in paper the ISS model has more detail than my 1/144 scale revel plastic one :mrgreen:

You should, it is an excellent model and it is fun to build. You get to learn allot about the ISS by building the AXM one. Alfonso did a great job in designing this.

I can only second that. It is buildable yet immensely detailed and also very well scaleable. I built mine in 1/400:

I built Alfonso's shuttle Challenger /tank/boosters on the mobile launch platform/crawler at 144 scale. I briefly toyed with building ISS but now seeing your 144 shuttle connected to the ISS I'm sure I don't have room to display it. But I am in awe of your dedication. My model took me 4 months! You built all that in less than a month? Wow.

My wife would make sure some kind of accident happened to it. Like the Galactic Cat Imperium attacking when no one was home aided by their cohorts, The Dog Guild, who would shred it into peaces. Then she would demand that no longer functional, it must be removed, as it could endanger other craft.:cry:
This just happened with a much smaller model. My only recourse was to immediately purchase 12G;s of RAM for my computer and start looking at new motherboards and CPU's, to balance the cosmic forces in play.:evil: Ram arrives Tuesday. Some of you will understand how these Space/Model building soap operas work, others, read and learn! Holding motherboard and CPU in reserve. :twisted:

Wow. Thats. Big. It certainly requires a lot of what the real ISS does: space. But if you've got it, why not. I'm in awe of your patience and skill.

This is the kit (or made the kits ) that made me jump into papermodelling.I intend to made it as soon as i find a way to preserve it from dust sunlight and smoke (i am a smoker).Anyway this is a fine craft!!i do like the attached space shuttle.I thing you sould paint your ceilling black with yellow dots to simulate space!!!!!!

If you want to preserve it you can spray it with a clear coat, I use krylon clear coat.

I have thought about painting my ceiling but I rent this house and don't want to put all that work into painting it the have to repaint it back white if I ever move.

I have used krylon products for years on my plastic models, also use it on my wood cuttings and also on my paper models and have had no experiences of any yellowing. Here is a link to the product. I think you will be very pleased with it.

As a former smoker myself, I respectfully suggest that the yellowing you've observed on your previous models may be due to smoke rather than the clear coat actually yellowing. No clear coat can protect your models from the deposits left by cigarette smoke. I gets on everything.

That looks absolutely amazing. It looks like it belongs in a space museum. Is there ever any concern of the solar arrays just buckling to themselves from being so large?

You could always do it with some sheets of black construction paper. It would be cheaper that painting, not harm the hose, and you could shape it, easily put pin holes and a cool running LED lamp behind it. It is a beauty!!

Thank you mastrcontrol. This is the 144 scale so the arrays are not all that big and heavy but with my 1:100 yes that is a problem. I was sitting at my desk one day and the next thing I know I am getting whacked in the head by one of the arrays that broke off. I re-glued it and then ran line from the ceiling to each of the arrays to hold them up and take some of the strain off of them.

But then a few weeks later a bird got in the house and guess were he decided to fly, yep, right into all the wires that held the arrays. Now they are all sitting on my shelf awaiting to be repaired.
