Same with me i just finishing the ME3 demo , it's funny how they use the same theme song out of ME2 for the Alliance Normandy in ME3.

If you feel like building some re-inforcement for it, by all means have at it! :) However i've built models on this scale before and from my experience it all depends on your methods and materials. Thickness of cardstock, type of glue used and such. However i'm not opposed to suggestions, however I will admit i'm not good enough with 3d modeling yet to create new structurs to an interal existing structure.

Hi Grale,

That's no problemo mate :thumb: , even with me i'm not the best in 3d modeling but i'm still learning my self.I'll try my basic methods in building your design Normandy SR2 an see how it turns out.

cannot wait until i see your blue Normandy version aswell keep up the good work.

Any good modeler can add re-enforcement. The easiest way is to make boxes following the airframe shape and just slip them in. :)

Also a good point. Something that i have done, which kinda sounds odd, but there is that foam stuff you can buy to fill wholes in the side of your house and such. It expands like crazy and i've found on larger models, it works very well to fill internal structures. It provides all around support and keeps the model light in weight and with less points of stress.

Just make sure you know exactly how much it expands. I have used stuff that I thought was done, only to come back and see the paper model on the ends of the Amoeba like structure that looks like is in the middle of infecting the model! :)

Good idea Grale, but I agree with Zathros, its insane how much that stuff expands, not to mention it will find every crack and ooze through it.:curse: Assuming we are talking about the same product.

Much Anticipated Updates

I love you guys and the following. I have finally had a chance to circle back around, and do some updates. The v4 Model has some updated flaps/folds to make building a tad easier and also ALLIANCE TEXTURES!

Thats right, with the newer version of this model you can now choose the Alliance Normandy SR2 skins. All the links are below. Sorry MAC guys, haven't had the time or processing power to spare to conver this to PDF yet. Will be a little while before i can get to it. However if someone wants to do this on their own, I have no quams with someone converting it to PDF. So go nuts! :thumb:

One small update. I re-uploaded my models as I found a couple of big errors in my layout and had a couple of pieces overlapping on a page. I have fixed that and updated a few more glue flaps. Here are the updated Links.

I've also included the skins for the ALLIANCE SR2 :D. So for all of you that have been looking for it, here they are!

Thanks!

Grale, if you ever make a post and it doesn't come right up, send me a P.M. and I will approve it. Sometimes the software just flags stuff and I would have hated to have missed it and to not see your hard work not put up. It is extremely appreciated. Thank You! :)

Since you invited anyone to convert them, I'm taking the liberty of converting your PDO into PDFs. I can send them to you, or else simply upload them myself to the downloads library. :thumb:

First of all BIG thanks for this beauty.

I started this model yesterday with the alliance collor sheme and discovered an error.

This is the correct side:

And here you can see a half of the Symbol on the wrong side,
should be corrected in the texture file I think:

Texture Flaw

Chill, you are right. I see the defect on the 3d view in Pepakura. I checked the texture file, and it does not appear on the texture, so its most likely an error on the 3d model before going into Pepakura. Especially frustrating considering that it takes a ton of work coming from the modeling program prepping it for pepakura. I will include that in my list of updates/fixes for my next revision of the model.

Also I wanted to get some feedback on further simplifying the model. I have included some Yes/No's below to see what everyone might think. My thoughts have been to make the black window sections flush with the rest of the hull, and eliminate the 45 degree angles that join the bottom with the sides of the hull. This will preserve detail in look, but make the model much easier to build.

1) Recessed black window sections; Make flush with rest of hull (Yes/No)

2) Convert all 45 degree angles to full 90 (Yes/No)

Keep in mind it will be some time before i can circle back to this project due to work and other such life items interfering with my fun!wall1 But whatya do. Please let me know what you think.

Thank you again for all of your support guys!

No, because it's not very difficult to build and looks nice

2) Convert all 45 degree angles to full 90
When I finished the hull, I can answer this

In my opinion, formers for the hull would be nice.
That would make the hull more stable and it can be built without borders.

And the parts of the hull wich are seperated into small stripes should be combined to one part.

This is what I can suggest so far.

Really great work, I wish I could do so amazing things in 3D Design :)

I think I am going to make it a requirement that if you make a model available here, you have to built it first!

I don't know why this is not done. If you "design" a model, then build it to see if it comes out right! Or, ask for Beta Builders, who know what they are getting into.

If you make a new one, and are looking for Beta builders, make a post asking for Beta Builders. You can send them the model and they can build it. When you see other threads of people painstakingly building this model, and others in general, and you bang one out, throw it out there, and have not even built it, it is a disservice to the community. There was another member doing that here and it caused him much grief. he got a real bad attitude, and in the end had to leave the forum. if he had built the models first, things would have probably turned out different.

Grale, modify your post, and Please remove that model. If you want to put up another one, build it first, make sure it works.

Asking someone to print out 52 pages uses a lot of Ink. It is much to ask, especially with no prior warning. I thought you had built the model. I suggest you build a "line only" model, to make sure it works, then offer the model up.

This is going to be a sticky.
