hi all i recently finished building a warhammer 40k thunderbolt based off of these patterns: http://www.zealot.com/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=839

I built the model out of plasticard so it would be more durable. Without further adieu:

yeah I second that. where did you get such a sheet of plastic from ? Looks like it was an old advertising sheet or something.

also if possible how thick was it ?

I've considered using plasticard but due to cost that I'd need to buy it at and the wastage due to mistakes (always make a mistake the more costly the item) I've stuck to paper/card. Ok good quality with paper at 200gsm and card 600 and 1000gsm.

I used small 'for sale' signs from home depot they were about .5mm i think for the thin detail stuff.

and about 1/64 inch thick signs, the largest 'for sale' sign at home depot.

The small signs are as thin as a sheet of paper.

PLEASE post smaller pictures!! Nice looking model!! I would have liked to have seen it done in paper, maybe with plastic sheets for areas that you wish to prevent warping, though there are ways to do that with paper. If you are making a model from scratch like that, and plan to paint it afterwards, a whole bunch of different techniques open up to you. Try taking a big spoon and putting wet paper on it, you can use different spoons and small bowls and the like, to get compound curves. If you practice at it, you will be quite surprised at shapes that seemed previously impossible in paper. Of course, when you put the wet paper on the compound curved object, you must wait for it to dry before you take it off. This is an advantage when you completely scratch build something. You can paint and use putty to make one off works of art!

We have a WarHammer40K section now and I am moving your post there. Thanks for the pics!

thanks for that :thumb:. don't have home depot here but it gives an idea on where/what to look for.

Looks awesome, can't wait to see it painted. Thanks for the tips on the For Sale signs, will have to check out what's available in my area (gotta be cheaper than buying Plasticard sheets at my local hobby store!).

Can I ask how long it took to build?
