Any Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy fans with caricature skills?

Don't know about you, but I was thinking the other day that I would 'LOVE' to have a set of the original BBC cast members as caricature bobble heads/head knockers, and who knows, maybe there are some of you talented guys out there that would love that too.

Now, I've no idea if it can be done to any reasonable degree, but maybe if a few folks on here can collaborate with my good-self, who knows?

First job however would be to get a reasonably good caricatures of the characters. I've already found a 'reasonable' one of Arthur, and Marvin I can manage :D

Just to stress - I'm really not looking for great artwork, just someone with a good caricature-eye that can produce a good outline from which to move to 3D (again, a degree of assistance may be required ;))

I am a great fan of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. They kind of killed it in the movie. I wish they would show the original series again, but I doubt it, and don't know why. The BBC has a treasure trove of shows they don't show, and there are many Americans that would gobble that stuff up.

Some guys do amazing stuff with Pepakura. I'm not one of them though.

They haven't shown it hear in the UK for a long time either, though in truth it looks a little dated these days to say the least :D

That said, it has a special place in the hearts of all H2G2 fans unlike the movie which as you say would probably have never happened had poor Douglas Adams still been alive.

As you say - some talented guys out there - just wondered if there were anyone who could give me a starting point for the face artwork.

Realise the chances are slim so will probably have to pay for 'em doing, but there are a few caricaturists on the web that will do them for $5 a throw, so I might try a few different artists with Ford (David Dixon - a tricky, unremarkable face) and see what I get.

Early days, but who knows if it possible to convert it to 3D and then create a papercraft bobblehead.....

I'm thinking maybe Hako++

Pipe dream anyone?

Dated or not, I'd still watch it. It truly was really funny. I remember the "pig-like" creature inviting them to eat certain parts of himself, and the concert, where people had to be on the other side of a planet to actually listen. There are lots of shows like that, remember the Tripods? They only showed a small part of that here. I would love to see the whole series.

Had it for years myself.

With the roll-out of bluray DVDs prices are dropping across the board as everyone apparently wants the 'new' format. So nows the time to get those old series on the cheap I reckon :)

Don't get me wrong - Bluray is all well and good if your watching Transformers or the Dark Knight, but for older films, and certainly the old-school filmed-for-TV sci-fi the resolution was never really there in the first place.

And even if it was, I mean c'mon - Thunderbirds on blu-ray? Love them wires ;D

Blue Ray is overrated to be honest. It is really noticeable on 60 Inch TV's and bigger but a video up-scaler will give you most of that. I have been to many homes where people are running Blue ray and don't even have the TV set up right and are telling me how wonderful it looks. I had a TV repair shop for almost 10 years. There is a big psychological factor with this. I have a LCD Projector I run at 100 inches diagonal and upscaled at 1080i looks just like a movie theater.

It's even worse with audio equipment. I picked up a pair of AR2ax Speakers for $15 dollars because the guy just though his Bose system (2 teeny speakers and a shoebox sized subwoofer) sounded better. I make my own speakers. I grabbed the Acoustic Research speakers and re-foamed the cones for the drivers. They sell regularly for $300 or $500 a pair. They are more than adequate for my rear speakers and I have a set of Genesis II's for my side speakers. Miller-Kreisel Subwoofer and pair of tapered quarter wave tubes for the main speakers I made with an f/s of 29 hz. You wouldn't believe the pair of Wharfedale Speakers Variflex SpeakersI have, and my LC90 L.L. Scott Tube Amp/Pre.Amp system.:woot1:

On the theme of Hitchiker's Guide - you would probably find the entry on the rock band 'Disaster Area' quite amusing :D

"The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy notes that Disaster Area, a plutonium rock band from the Gagrakacka Mind Zones, are generally held to be not only the loudest rock band in the Galaxy, but in fact the loudest noise of any kind at all. Okay - decided to sod it and try out a few caricaturists on the web on the budget end. Chose Ford as he has a very plain face. Results were varied...

All I can say is that the one bottom-right is bloody brilliant - needless to say I shall be using his services on the other characters :)

Okay - I have a starting point - a few tweaks required here and there, but I'm seriously pleased with the guys work.
