Gary Pilsworths Fireflash

Well.... after a successful build of our Gary's Fireflash design - which i was very pleased with, a tragedy occurred.... she got flattened wall1 one thing i learned here was, never park a plane on a chair and forget it's there wall1 I had no card stock left, and i had promised Phil {Gixergs} some piccy's - so as not to let him down, AND to actually have something to look at, i re-printed onto the only paper stock i have got and did a quick re-build of her. The paper is so thin, some areas you can see the glue that has soaked through to the surface. I will re-build her on proper card stock soon. The model shown here, is the original design but printed at 40%. She is VERY light to handle, and the paper buckles very VERY easily.... oh well, here's Fireflash - the un-sat on version

The up-side....... I have been DOODLING too, something for all us FANDERSONS - will be coming to a thread near you SOON ! no clues gentlemen, but i think you will appreciate what i will be giving you. SOON !

Ah the old triple A (Anti Aircraft A**) at least it would be less painful than the plastic kits I've sat on,or the cat!.For all the paper problems she looks mighty fine Pete, you did a great job as indeed has Gary with the kit design.Given her track record in the series it is fitting really that your first build should end with a disaster!.

Make sure you adjust the canards upwards and put the elevators up so the won't go nosing into the ground when you give her that first toss!......................only kidding!:p

It really looks like it would glide really nice!! Gerry Anderson must have had access to incredibly strong alloys, the force of the thrust, the weight of the Engines, combined with the weight of the crew's cojones , in the cockpit, all sitting on top of that thin Rudder! Really amazing!

A great story line would have been for the whole plane to drop off the the crew goes blasting into space and has to be rescued!

I love this stuff and I'm a Fanderson too, yes, I am. I don't think there is anything equivalent to his work anywhere nowadays. Think how much reality you have to suspend watching Star Trek and Star Wars? When I was young and watched all those models plowing around, seeing the suspension actually work on the vehicles, all I could think was, why aren't "they" doing that now? "They" were!

I never figured out who "they" were, but there are quite a few groups of them. Like the current economic global catastrophe, "they" are making a fortune. I still don't know who those "they's" are. If you haven't made any money either, start chanting "We accept you! We accept you! One of us! One of us! Gooble-goble, gooble-goble!, One of us, One of us!"

Thanks guys. Gary got this design right on the money - Thanks Gary :thumb: Yes she looks and feels light enough to glide, i will try this when i get some more card stock and build her again - i don't want the risk of breaking her at the moment due to the fact i want something to look at, my original build was far superior to this, BUT paper's paper, and i did what i could do in the time i had. I will let you know how she glides when i go for it  In the meantime, the SURPRISE for all us FANDERSONS is edging ever closer... just a few final parts and some instructions to do :p

YOU SAT ONE YOUR OTHER ONE!! My wife did that to one of my models and almost sat on my Violin! Oh the Humanity! Where were the rest of the Thunderbirds when you needed them!

Little well know was that his wife stood in for "Torchy, the Battery boy" . The second picture is here in 'normal attire".

Now a paper model can be re-built, but a violin  yes it can be rebuilt at a cost - and would never sound the same again. I restored a violin many MANY years ago, and enjoyed every minute of it, the guy i did this for asked how much he owed me - i said "Play me something from Vivaldi's four seasons and we'll call it quits ! " he played ALL four seasons to my total delight, the sound from just that one violin in his hands was heavenly :thumb:

Sorry to hear about the demise of your first build. That story kinda sounds familiar; now where have I seen that story before.....? ;-)

Fireflash was always one of my favourite designs from Thunderbirds. Probably not terribly practical (what with the problem of killing the passengers with radiation after a few hours), but cool to look at. Now you just need some teeny, tiny elevator cars.....
