I just found this project posting and, while I thought the 1/72 U-Boat was cool, your locomotive project is the most fantastic model I think I have ever seen. This ought send the plastic boys reeling. I always loved this train since I was a small boy in the sixties. The Union Pacific 4018 has been the star of the Age of Steam museum here in Dallas since it opened in 1963. This museum is moving to a new site and they plan to put the 4018 on the tracks once again for the 30 mile journey to its new home. That'll be a photographer's dream! We'll have to make sure your model is made available in the gift shop. Great work! Keep 'em coming!

Hello to all
I'm back again after the situation here and in Bangkok is getting better. The model is going bigger. I added the engine truck and start the pilot frame. First frame was too weak. many parts were changed from thin paper to cardboard. I want to make it looked strong. The draw gear can rotate to inside the pilot when unused.

The pilot has been completed today. I designed the draw gear position be selectable. It can turn into the pilot when unused.

The parts are added week by week in recently. The parts assembly is not too much complicated but the volume is big. Parts are compressed in a small space as the real train be. The sequence of assembly is much challenge for me. I found a few design mistakes during the building. Some of them I could not correct for my own test build. Hope it won't happen to Michael's test build.

I have a new update for this week. The radiator and condensate tank for the air compressor pumps. The radiator made by 21 fins for each layers. I made a jig to hold and fix all fins then inserted 2.0 mm wire through the fins. By this jig the fins are not bent.

Every time I view this thread, I just shake my head in wonder.

The amount of detail you're putting into this is nothing short of phenomenal. I half expect this to be able to actually run on steam power once it's done!

Hello there
During 2 weeks I built Slip Joint Elbows which one of moving parts. The joint slips on a curve rail behind when the train runs on a curve.
Today I finished to build the Air Pump Shield. The shield doors' grill is a hard work to do. The grills are very small and easy to be torn during folding. I had to rebuild twice.
The Train Number Plate is a too hard for my hand cutting. It would be a good idea to get some helping from a Laser machine. I found a Laser Cut for artwork shop here. They helped me to make the number plate without charge. Thousand thanks to them.
The painting is a hard job. Now the magnifier is a necessary tool as much as the knife for me. I painted under it.

I have more parts
Several weeks I redesigned and built many parts. This week I have exhaust pipe , front run board and head light to present. I put 3 LEDs to the head light. One for the main light and 2 for number plate lights. The cover glass rim glows up too. I should add black painting to its rim.
