I first tried building Starling several years ago in this forum but I never finished her because I could not get the bridge right, which has irked me for some time now. So I redrew her in Metaseq as a full hull model with the ability to make a waterline one.

Some details

Thanks Teamski

Slow progress as usual these days and a few false starts the funnel I redesigned to avoid making a slip over part at the base and the rake angle was too shallow. I shall probably rebuild the bridge to get the passage under the brdge deck correct.

Rigging

Thanks Nowhere

The rigging is very simple in real life and I am afraid I had to make it even more simple from steel wire. My fingers just can't perform well enough to add the extras. I used superglue to glue the lines it worked quite well.

HMS Starling kitted up

Thanks Peter and sjs

I have to apologise for not finishing the rails etc but through some ill health I have fallen way behind and if I do not get on with Richelieu and Enterprise I shall forget how to put them together and lose the lot. I shall come back and finish Starling because she has always been one of my favourite ships.

Anyway she is now kitted up

Best wishes for your health!!!

Hello Barry,

I' m sorry for your bad health.
I hope you recover soon, for your family and for the benefit of the whole modeling community.
Your model of the Black Swan Sloop is as excellent as the other models of yours.
I have to say this once, for me you are one of the greatest designers in the whole modeling community.
For me you are an ideal in computer designed models and i hope i become as good in blender as your are today in metasequoia and pepakura.
I admire your courage of designing even big projects as the Richelieu, the Tarrawa and the Enterprise.

But back to your model of the Black Swan.
It is one of the lesser known work horses of the royal navy.
For me it is in fact not of personal memory ( i' m too young for that), but my father sailed on the Graf Spee (ex HMS Flamingo) to South America in the early sixties.
During christmas Break i digitized most of the photos he had taken during this trip.
Therefore this class has got familiar to me.
My father has Alzheimer and those photos of his ship brought him back flashes of memory.

Is there any chance that you could design a "german" black swan Sloop (in the beginning of of the Bundesmarine this class has formed the backbone of the fleet beside the american fletchers).
Or do you have a line plane of the ship, so that i could try to do it?

Get well soon!!

Yours sincerly

Thomas
