Hello cdavenport
The bagasse paper cardboard is normal material for architech model building here. There are 2 thickness 1.2 mm and 1.5 mm i found here. You may find some similar or better materials there. Michael is building the beta tender he tries with 1.0 mm cardboard. Every thing is fine with that thickness.
Best Regards

Now I'm building leaf springs. Total 6 sets for front drive wheels. The test 3 sets are ok. One set contains with 18 sheets bending along the template. First 3-4 sheets must be serious in bending (exactly follow the template). After the shape is formed the remained sheets are easier. Just bend and paste along the shape.

several weeks after collecting suspension parts I tried to finished suspension section in a day. Unfortunately I lost some parts (or i forgot to build them). So the back drive wheel's suspension is suspended for today. I have some more pictures to show.

Cheers

Every time I view this thread, I just shake my head in wonder.

The amount of detail you're putting into this is nothing short of phenomenal. I half expect this to be able to actually run on steam power once it's done!

Miniature boiler... vent pipe... coal hopper...

Today I finished all of suspension. It's rather complecated to build. I did some mistakes during building. So I have no photo in some steps.

Several weeks , I have nothing to report. I met a problem of how to assembly brake and sand pipe. Small space between wheel and chassis made me to think hard for the assemble method. The way i selected is , putting the wheels to wheel shaft. Then hanging brakes to the chassis. And brake links for the last. Very complecated and tremendous of parts , I did a mistake during brake links assembly. But it was not a serious problem.

I don't normally make "wow" posts, but.... WOW!!

This looks to me like it's going to be the finest scale reproduction of a Big Boy in any scale, or any medium, period!

The incredible workmanship continues Kooklik!

Chosen as POTW!

Your work continues to astound me... and, as a result, this build has been chosen to appear as Picture of the Week on the forum homepage!

Thank you Ekuth for POTW although the model's journey is still so far.
The brake cylinders are weak and complecated I won't install now. I'll continue on side rods. Some parts are very thin. I must pay more attention when cut.

Hi there
I repaint the rods with black prepaint. Rods are more metalic shine looking.
I tested to fit all rods to the wheels. All rods are strait along the rail line. All were well fit and not difficult to assembly. Only one thing have to be careful is sand pipes which are very weak.

This is my last post for this year.
I wish you all have a very happy new year 2010.
See you next year.
