Hello,
Still cruising in the B5-universe
After Hyperion and Omega I decided to try building Jay's Babylon 5 and I thought I'd make this a build thread... let's see if I can keep this going :1:
So far I've completed about a third of the station. I tried for the first time to replace original tabs with my own hoping that the result would be cleaner with less ovelapping parts...
I rolled couple of cardboard tubes for the central axis of the station.

More work done...
Lots of cylinders on this model.

edit: I just realised how big (long) this model will be :icon_eek:

I'll be watching this one with interest as I've never seen this one built up before. I have my own printed and ready to go, so I'll be glad to see yours first so I know what to expect.

Yeah that's one reason i thought of doing this thread. You know for the greater good... :icon_lol:

So far nothing strange has come up. It seems pretty straight forward. B5's just a big lumpy tube. :1:

Here we go again... more tubes :icon_razz:
Parts J&K and L&M are pretty much alike in terms of assembly (Picture has unassembled parts J and K).
I added few slices of painted cardstock for hull-wise "supports" that are there in J and L but are missing in the original model.
Finally parts from J to M are glued together.
I don't know if it's a good idea to build this as one section and then attach it to the rest of the station but i dont expect any problems.

Some progress yet again. The P-section was interesting to put together
Well it'll do... more or less orb-like structure. Finally J-section put together with port entrance -piece and we have.... a salt/pepper shaker?

Ahhh... That takes me back! I used to watch that show a lot. Loved it (for the most part). Might want to start planning how you'll display it!

That's always the problem isn't it... :eek:ops:
I finished the panel mounts and the "spine". I added some extra detailing to the spine and to the front section of the station. I also cut open the tips of the panel mounts.

Here's the rest of the spine and the whole thing assembled.
Next up would be the solar panels and assembling the whole station

Finished.
Hopefully this was useful. I'm glad I inspired some of you with this thread
The model was overall a nice design. I added those red boxes (raw material storage apparently) along the spine-thingy. I also cut open the docking port.

Very fine result. Yes, it is useful to see and read about an actual build. You provided much more insight than one can get merely looking over the parts.
