It has been a while snce I posted and I recently downloaded Ninjatoes Danube Class Rubicon. I been searching for a previous build and could not find one. Since this is the case, I decided to tackle that missing link. I found plenty of finished pics but none in the build process. I hope that this build will help others in their endeavor to build this ship.

Fist off, this is a a big ship, so I reduced it to 75% and it still came out to about the size of a 12 inc ruler (30.5 cm) It is approximately 1/48 scale.

I redid the hand drawn line and some other line work, but kept it to ninjatoes original concept.

As soon as I started, I noticed the lack of internal infrastructure, I had to create bulkheads and formers for strength . Even with 110lb weight paper, it still buckled slightly in my hands. There were some fit problems but none too serious that could not be fixed later. So without further ado, here is the start of the RUBICON.

The first pic is a further along the line semi finished version.

The cockpit area is where I should have done some internal bracing. this is the weakest part of the model and it kept curving in with my finger pressure.

On the frontal window, curve that bend, don't score it. This will give it a better curvature instead of a hard edge.

I printed and cut out some double panels in certain areas to achieve the raised surface in some key positions.

OH yes!! Thanks to ninjatoes for his design.

Continuing on the progress. I should have placed some more stiffeners and formers into the nose section. The connector bulkheads received stiffeners.

More on the build. Make sure that part #6 has an arc in it. Remember that fold out piece? the arc section is glued to this part.

THAT PART that I labeled as a side marker/step is the side lasers. But they sure look like the foot pads on an old Elactraglide.sign1sign1sign1

Still more on the build.

Made some stiffeners/bulkheads out of foam core board.

On the wing support, make sure the bulkheads are at 90% angle. I rushed this section and wound up with a gap that distorted the fuselage. I had to compensate for this, but not to worry, It was fixed later on in the build.

The rear section should have had some support also. The rear cabin has a tendency to curve in. Again, not to worry, that part was taken care of later in the build.

On with the build. The areas in dark grey are the fit problem that I had by not placing the wing formers in a 90% position.

For the wing section, I placed stiffeners and built up the rounded area. This took those nasty tabs away and made for a better rounded fit.

For the top. I place a stiffener of foam board to give me some area to put pressure on the upturned tab connectors and make for a better fit.

The bottom did not lined up but not to worry, I just did a raised ribbed section for the bottom.

The mirror effect is a minor problem which will be taken care of later.

The build goes on. Finished the nacelles. I made some stiffeners for the nacelles, and when it came time to place the front on, it would not slide on. I had to trim the rear off the front piece and glue it to the front of the nacelle. I rounded the front piece edges as much as possible and painted
them with acrylic paint. Also I cut and trimmed the upper and lower markers with acrylic paint.

Here is a pic with the size of the ship at75%.

I printed out another sheet for the nacelle wings with the corrected mirror effect. The bottom part was extended to cover the gap at the connection of the engine nacelle and and the wing. This made for a smoother fit and kept the engine nacelles flat an in line with the bottom of the ship.

Added panels and raised surfaces to the bottom of the ship.

I'm so very surprised no one has said anything. I guess I'm part of that group. I've been watching your build and it's really quite awesome. I'd perhaps would try to build the bigger one but that's just me. I like big models. I doff my shappo to you on a job well done.

Thanks Ronson. I am also a bit surprised at the silence. As mentioned before, I could not find a build thread on this subject so I decided to make one. Paragon also has a cleaned up version of this model (no lines) by ninjatoes. This thread is here for every ones benefit. If you do the larger version, you will need formers/bulkheads and stiffeners. Good luck mate.

This build thread is at its end. Finished the stand and hand painted it. Placed my Rubicon on it and off to the the display shelve.

Thanks Silver for sharing. I think some of the quiet may have been waiting for the shoe to fall. We used to have so many build threads actually be promotions for design sales or come-ons for some web site. It's great to see someone just honestly sharing their knowledge with fellow hobbyists. We are beginning to heal. Thanks again.

BYW-just got back from a wonderful week near Kitty Hawk...I love your state and the people there. Can't wait to go back.

Very nice job silveroxide! The ninjatoes was good for the design assembly but it really was needed a rework on that fine ship (the smallest to be an U.S.S.). It is one of my favourites together with the Delta Flyer. Thanks for showing the nice work you have done. As for the "silence" I think the hollidays might be the cause.
Again all my appreciations for the work you did on that little ship!

Thank you Sherban, I just hope that it will help the next builder who may decide to tackle the project and improve on it.:wave::wave:
