Shuttlebay

So this is what I came up for the Hood's aft end and shuttlebay. I agree with Sidewinder that the space for the flat portion of the underside needed to be enlarged, and I also rounded that part rather than leaving it square on one end. I added a thin strip for a lip and used a duplicate underside part as a backing for the bay doors. I had to trim those practically in half to get them to fit right but I think it came out pretty good. Lemme know if you like 'em James, and I'll send you the mods.

It could still use something on the sides of the bay doors, but I just colored them w/ pencil to mask it a bit - looks fine at this scale but would be more noticeable at 1:1000.

Thats just what I meant. How do you get that totally smooth rounded shape? I normally use a dowel/screwdriver shaft/etc to curve my secondary hull/nacelle parts and always end up with a bunch of little wrinkles.

Well at this scale, its a real advantage to be working with 65lb card as compared to your 110lb card. That being said, I did use 110lb card for my 1:1700 Enterprise-A, and rolling a smooth curve in it required me to use progressively smaller cylinders (marker -> pen -> nail) etc. Don't drag the paper across it, but allow it to roll smoothly. Use a soft surface such as a firm cushion, your palm, or thigh behind the card. It takes practice and patience.

Ok other than the spine, which im holding off on because Im still not sure on the orientation, its done! I kinda did this build quick & dirty, figured we would get the pristine , beautiful build from Cmags sign1.Other than the shuttlebay, which cmags has pretty well covered, and maybe some fattening up of the secondary hulls Id say she's lookin good. a little trimming was needed on the nacelle tapers but I actually like it that way so i can size them myself for a better fit.

Looks good SW, went together pretty well it seems. I haven't had much trouble with mine other than having to tweak the shuttlebay. I finished one of the sec. hulls - came out pretty good IMO. The only other issue I ran into on the sec. hull is the gap shown in the third pic. Its due to the shape of the second-from-aft part being too tapered on the fore end, meeting in a V instead of straight to match the perfect cylinder fore of it.

Yea I suppose I could have done that, but then I couldn't illustrate the issue to Paragon. ;)

Don't worry, I found that problem myself too, I know exactly what you mean. Sorry I can't get pictures up either to show the spine. I'm fixing that in Photoshop as we speak though.

Wow, SW, that's impressive. Care to share your stands? They're excellent.

just something I cobbled together. the bases are just the best pics of the particular ship I can find, laminated onto thick card. the risers for the ent's are from your ent-a kit, the risers for reliant and hood are from the SF Papercraft reliant kit, and the risers for Defiant and the klingons are from the base Panzer made for his defiant build here http://www.zealot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=151637 and if I can find a dedication plaque I add that too.
I just throw them together as I need them.

Upper primary hull went together without a hitch. Will put together the lower hull and then see about the edge and how it lines up.

Ok, I've fixed the problems we all encountered in this build, and compiled what should be the final model. Who wants to take a crack at the updated parts?

Yes, send 'em along. I'm only halfway done with the build anyway, so I'll incorporate the new parts in.
