Warhammer lightning

I found this on the mecha download section, It is not quite detailed but the basic format is there. It allows itself to be modified and can be a rather good build. Usually I post this build in the Sci-Fi section but it fits well in this forum. So on with the build.

The first pic is where I am now, but I will start from the begining, starting with the engine pods. Enjoy the build.:wave::wave:

More Engine detailing

Usually I start with the fuselage but I deviated from that stage in this build. The engines are very easy to make. The plans are very generic and you will have to scratch build a lot of the details.

more fun

in continuation, keep in mind that there are a lot of scratch built items in this build. This time I did not make any templates. I just made them up as I went along.:wave::wave::wave:

wings coming up

One thing about this model, It is more detailed on the bottom than on top. This may change once I get to the cockpit area. Warhammer subjects are among my favorites,

I used to play a long time ago but the rules are or were one sided, favoring the alien races more than the imperial army. About the only way to break even is to have a couple of basilics and get the enemy from the distance. This aircraft is one of the best for table top. In and out and drop your load. About the best piece the Imperium has are the Assassins but they are worth too many points. The Tyranids are almost impossible to annihilate. The Eldars are to fast and their Grav tanks most of the times only receive glancing blows. Now I play Dawn of War and at least I can beat the enemy.

Then there are the points. About the time you add up your points with all the special weapons, you can only field a squad at the most.

In spite of their drawbacks, I still favor the Imperium.

still on the wings

The Lightning is a good choice for heavy weapons support. With the Hellstrike missiles, you can eliminate those pesky Eldar Grav Tanks. Like I mentioned before, Attack the enemy from a distance before they get up close and dirty.

A note of caution, This paper model is not sanctioned at tournament competitions. You must use Forgeworld or Games Workshop models. On individual games, the opposing force must agree to the use of unauthorized vehicles or weapons.

The points for the Lightning is 170 and has a 10 armor all around:wave::wave::wave:

Gunz.....

Gun detailing;

Priorities of destruction for the Lightning.

1. Heavy weapons, like artillery and tanks, other aircrafts
2. Crew serve weapons, far-seers, psychers, wizards
3. targets of opportunities, infantry, snipers

Watch out for flak guns like the Hydra.

Armies...

gorgeous.

I'm a marine player, but I have always enjoyed the Imperial Guard's flyers.

When I say the Imperium, it also includes the Space Marines. My made up chapter are the Grey Ghost, they attack in the early hours when the fog is thickest and woe to the alien who happens to be in the way.

Flyers are also available for the Marines. One thing about flyers, never attack head on. Always attack on the flanks and work your way in.

Attached are a few non paper dioramas you may like. I have them posted on webshots.com. do a search for heavyoxide and it should bring you to them.

The last one is an interesting one, A Catachan on an old space marine Bike modified with Eldar jet bike parts.

Painting and detailing

I wonder what it will look like once you will get it painted. I am thinking of building the same model too

I am not quite done yet, but here is a preliminary paint job and a few details. I am in the process of writing out the pics for the build sequence and eventually I will get to this stage later. Enjoy:wave::wave::wave::wave:

Cockpit vents

Finishing off the vents and a doo-hickey on the back. May be a radome of sorts.

Next stage will be the missiles and pylons.

One of my favorite pieces for the Imperium is the Basilic artillery. I have a very good eye for distance. Besides, when I get into the game room, I look at the board. If it is done in a plywood sheet, half of my known distance is done. The board is usually a 4x8 if it is a table of unknown size, I discreetly measure the sides. You may call it cheating but I call it a reconaisance. Beside, the humans need all the help that they can get.

The rockets

Here are the pylons and rockets.

I used a round toothpick for the rocket base. I wanted the point to be sharp for penetration. Other than the plastic for the canopy, this is the only other area where I deviated from paper. I just did not want to carve six missile points out of the paper stick. Besides, this way they are all the same size.

Other item that I used, was a block of clay to stick the missiles while the glue set. I gave the flyer a coating of grey primer.

The pylons and wing attachments will be for the next posting.:wave::wave:

Rockets and pylons

Thank you zinsilg for the link insert. I should have done that in the beginning.

I just took a two week trip on personal business and will be back in two weeks for the final picks of the Lightning. I just finished the canopy framework but have not done a build sequence for it yet. I will be working on that around the 14th of March. In the meantime, here are a few more picks on the build.

Cockpit

Now to continue with the build. I trimmed a piece of cardstock to fit into the front panel area and glued that in the front area. On that front panel I cut small square pieces to make them stand out. I then drew by hand the instrument and gauges.

On the side panel and side walls I drew the instruments on a strip of cardstock and glued them to the walls and panels on top of the laminated sides.

The center console was done the same way. The console extended to the back to the rear cockpit bulkhead. I then placed the seat on the extension of the center console

This project is almost done, or is it??????:wave::wave::wave:
