Amazing progress!
Those life boats and davits are wonderful peices of modeling work. And also the derricks, the deck cranes and ladders. I really love your detailing.
Did you know, by the way, that the first davit (No. 1) on the port side in your latest photo still stands there on the real Titanic wreck more than 4000 meters down on the bottom of the north Atlantic?

I am glad you liked it - it is indeed a very nice photo, I especially like the deep sea fish which is outlined against the bright search lights of the submersible.
The davits, by the way, were a Swedish construction. They are called Welin davits after the engineer and constructor, Axel Welin. At the bottom of this page (the text is from part two of the new big Titanic book - 'The Ship Magnificent') is a little information on the Swedish Welin Quadrant davits:

Boat construction:
Photo 1 - 3 boats cut out. They are in thin paper making them easy to shape. I trim the boats with scissors, scribed the keel and two ends to ease folding.
Photos 2 & 3 - I overlapped the seams and applied white glue. I did not prebend as the naturally took shape with the overlapped seams.
Photos 6 & 7 - completed the seam gluing then added inner deck. Needed the inner deck to make installing the main deck easier. I tried one without the inner deck and it was a disaster.
Photos 8 & 9 - Cut out upper decks and did not bother to trim out the wells, these boats are all covered in canvas anyway so no need to waste time and the upper deck is firmer.
Photo 10 -12 - Canvas covers were scribed down the center. I glued the tips first the the outer edges. They formed very well.
Last photos show installation of the 16 boats. initially I was scared of the thin paper boat hulls but now wish all boats were made this was.

Just noticed the munster station numbers are ledgible on the boats. until I zoomed in the pics from the camara they are not visible with the naked eye. I did not glue them accordingly, but other then stating it here nobody would know.

I fall short of words to express my excitement to see this... I really am unable to believe how can one make such a realistic model.. Temm me, how much time did you spent on this so far? and are you going to sell this off or going to display it in some gallery..
Was looking thru Out of Print @ my favorite order house, and guess what was relisted as in stock, I did not even think about it. After seeing what can be made from this kit, my debit card in hand, order placed. I went back and re-read the complete thread and noticed you mentioned Tom's Model Works, which I am familar with, outstanding PE work, I did not know he was producing 1:200 railing, or did you special order. I also mentioned in another post about GoldModel, but to get in 1:200 scale, one must be prepaired to lay out some heavey cash for the custom work. One of the neat things they do for the Titanic is produce a fret for those lovely iron work benches that are all over the ship. I believe your build has shown that this beauty can be built, and built to a high standard as she comes from Fly, of which I am not sure, but I understand one of the brothers died just recently, do not know what impact that will have for Fly kits! I just wonder, what if you replaced the decking w/veneer planking (drawn), add all the PE, (that would be alot of custom work and money), and replace all windows w/micro-scope slide glass painted out to block access to interior, but have the reflective surface that only comes from glass. Then again, building straight from kit as you have done is outstanding already. How much would you charge for a copy of your drawings of the dericks. I too am working on the IJN Yubari and am waiting to see your build of this one as well, though I know you will not reutrn until done with this beauty. I have added some parts, PE and a set of kit bashed barrels to go with the build. A fan!
atam this is going to sit on shelf in the living room, when i die it will be donated most like to the maritime museum in Oswego on Lake Ontario.
Homestly this build is faster so far than either Rodney or Sharnhorst.
Papa, I buy Tom's 1/192 rails but have decided to use up my stock of paper rails on her. They will paint white better and I will be able to glue a brown rail cover on them better. Plus they are 4-bar rails. Tom's only carries the deck chairs and fittings in 1/350 scale so paper chairs will be the order of the day. I built a few for the covered decks and they look OK.
I did add clear plasic from a report jacket on all the bridge windows and the large rectangular hull side windows, and the glare is good when the lighting is right, can't seem to capture them with the camara, otherwise you can see right thru them.
I will make my rails for Yubari, i typically build all guns 5 inch and less. Yubari has 6 inchers but I will make from some tapered clock pins and thin copy paper. At 6" the hollow tip is only visible up real close.
No work tonight SU is preparing to blow another basketball game I can't miss it.
Being a Buffalo Bills and SU Orange fan seems to leave me very frustrated so I take it out by building and building. Oh well.

Thanks for all the info, liked the deal of using the paper railing and adding the wood grab bar across the top. As for the Yubari, I tried to get the brass clock pins, no luck. Would you sell me some and let me see how usefull. I ordered the PE for another kit to get the railings from it. I have both, paper and PE railings, and I think I like the paper one better. You did not answer my question about the dericks. I really liked how your drawn ones turned out. Again thanks for the info. I am a Duke and Dallas fan. I get beyond ticked at the way they play, sure can not build after they choke a game ie: UNC-Duke. Not a good day for Duke fans. Rick
I would like to correct something that was posted else where and appears not to be a rumor, but in fact happened some time ago and that was the statement of a brother that designed for Fly had passed and to buy up Fly kits! I found out today this was true for some time ago, but the kits are and will still be available. Sorry for the mis-info.wall1

Absolutely Beautiful Work
Just to say that i am GOBSMACKED with your work. You are doing a beautiful job here. I made a Titanic model from the Ralph Currell design - originally 9 inches long i upscaled her to 35 inches and added extras along the way. I am considering a larger scale of the great ship and a full hull version. I've put a link to a video i made of her and why i made it. I would appreciate your comments here on what you think. I posted that I was able to order a copy of the Fly Titanic from my friend Krys. Today the Post Lady dropped off a heavy box. Inside with some other kits was the Titanic. All I can say is unreal

To those thinking about purchasing a copy, don't hesitate, get one if you think you might want to take the challenge of building this beauty. The kit is just beautiful, a yes I already know the buff is not right, but the kit colors are bright and the drawings are sharp and clear. I have many of Fly's kits and I have got to say this one is the bomb of the lot. Now where's that phone number for GoldModels.
