This was sitting in my friend's engine track!

I don't if it's still there but...

...there was a full fledged Turbo Train parked at NAPARANO's scrap yard near Newark, NJ just a few years ago. I'm sure I have a few shots somewhere. Naparano's is the choice for RR relics to be scrapped- not too far from the Kearny Shops.

One of my favorite films is "The 7UPs", a cop/mob drama. The last sceen is trackside on the Northeast Corridor and a Turbo Train and GG-1 powered train zoom by.

A reflection.

I bought white CN version as I saw this running when I was a kid.
My father took me to the train station and we watched it come in.
To a kid looking down the track in the summer heat at early evening, seeing the Mars light on it way off in the distance, it looked like an approaching space craft.
I was in awe when I first saw it. The doors came out of the sides in unison to the platform and people came out like beings from another city.
Then we walked up to the engine and looked up to see the engineer, waived hello and off it went to the Montreal terminus. What a sound. Will never forget it.
That was my impression of it as a wee lad.
I haven't ran it yet but bought it as I know they'll be hot when not produced anymore.
Shame there isn't a single museum that has one to view. Such a large gap missing in railroad history.

Really? I thought they'd all been scrapped in the '80s. Could it maybe have been one of Amtrak's or NYDOT's Rohr Turboliners?

My N scale version still has factory air - and has never seen a layout.

Still has that "new turbo" smell, eh? :p

I can remember lusting after that train set after seeing it in the glass cabinet of the Woolco store in Brantford, back when I was maybe 6 or 7.... yikes! I'm old!!!
