ARMORMAN

He was talking about abandoning the Habitat ring because it is not visible in the final assembly. I hope he keeps it as an option as well as making the pod bay and cockpit for it.

I thought this would not be an interesting model but the details in this model are incredible - please please please keep the interior as it would be a fascinating build in itself and if the front could be made to slip off to reveal it....

Meanwhile there is this HAL 9000 panel http://tektonten.blogspot.com/search/label/Science Fiction - check out the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch while you are there.

Someone could do the monolith as well. It's dimensions are in the ratio 1:4:9 but I'm not sure of the Jupiter/Saturn one's actual size.

Has anyone attempted the space wheel?

In the book 2010 Dr. Haywood mentions the fact that the ratio is the same dimensions as the one found on the moon.... it was like you could divide the mesurments of the one around Jupiter/Saturn and it would come out to 1:4:9... something like that, it's been forever since I have read the book.

One interesting sidenote: The ratio of the Monolith was always given as 1:4:9, the first prime numbers and their squares, but the movie one has a totally different ratio (although the ratio was also 1:4:9 on the dioalogues)...

In Arthur C. Clarke's 1968 novelization of "2001: A Space Odyssey" (screenplay co-written with Stanley Kubrick), the dimensions of TMA-1 (the Mars monolith) were given in this passage:

"One curious, and perhaps quite unimportant, feature of the block had led to endless argument. The monolith was 11 feet high, and 1 1/4 by 5 feet in cross-section. When its dimensions were checked with great care, they were found to be in the exact ratio 1 to 4 to 9 -- the squares of the first three integers. no one could suggest any plausible explanation for this, but it could hardly be a coincidence, for the proportions held to the limits of measurable accuracy..."

However, those dimensions don't QUITE match the 1:4:9 ratio! And I always found it amazing that the monolith builders could so precisely predict the English measuring system three million years ago. ;-)

Is there any update on when the files on this are going to be released? The model looks awesome and I would love to attempt!

From what I can decipher (after Babel Fish got through with the translation). There was a problem or change with the design, that needed to be fixed or implemented. He has been busy with his job or a new job. Someone else here might be able to give a more accurate explanation, but that is what I get from the translation (and sometimes they went off on a tangent :p). I suspect it will be released soon. It will be worth the wait!!!!!!!!!

Agreed it will be most worth the wait!!
As far as the builders of the monolith go.... wouldn't mathmatics be universal no matter how many millions if not billions of years go by?

Thanks for the heads up. I've been checking his blog obsessively at least twice daily for weeks now, waiting for this. This just made my day. Thanks again. Got it, and will be printing it later tonight. Can't wait can't wait....
