as with every thing there is a beginning.
and so starts the great tiger adventure, its to be ambitous for sure. it will be the largest tank kit i have ever dared to try, and since all of the parts for this project have finally arrived at HQ, its time to officially begin.

i am really getting into paper model "kits" i really am intrigued by the little extras the company put out as optional parts, and with this model i am going for broke and have purchased all that i could find for this tank...
from gun barrels to metal tow and chain link chains to laser cut frames, wheels, engine guards, treads, its allso the biggest expense i have been authorized to make as per teh kitty

i will start with a break down of the model kit parts as i have them now...

parts first glance

here is a break down of the kit parts having all arrived at HQ

well its time to go make some kona coffee and move some flood lights
the overhead florescents are making the pictures a funny shade of yellow.

i think ill raise the resolution of the camera as well... its losing some of the detail...

and having made it throught the last tank build i know i can stick it through this one till the end, its just gonna take a while....

it will be interesting to see how this one will end up!

wish us luck and send some of those german tank mechanics i hear so much about!!!!

building the tiger tank internal frame

well so it begins.

we start at page one, and assemble the frame.
i consider the optional former kit money well spent, no longer do i have to worry that the model will assemble true and square, and it is a great relief to my broken hands lol...

i am very excited to build this model so lets begin...

and thanks gpm for making this kit!

the fit on the formers is quite good,
even so you do have to bevel the edges where they meet on angle,
if you keep that in mind the fit is perfect

i dont see it as a issue but a design limitation with the laser cutter since it cannot cut the formers on angle but only vertically

enjoy :thumb:

Jim Nunn

dont tell teh kitty she thought i bought treats

From my point of view you did buy treats.

Question, Several of the later GPM kits come with embossed printed parts that represent Zimmreit did this have the embossed sheets in the Kit?

Jim Nunn

no jim thats not included in the kit i purchased...

it looked kinda neat but i wasnt sure if i wanted it on my tank
fortunately gpm doesnt read the forums here
otherwise they might start offering more of these "optional"kits for their standard models.. i know not every one purchases them but i kinda consider them a collectors edition type of thing...

anyways i do hope they keep doing it cause ill keep buyin sign1

im working on parts that previously would have made me skeerd heh

having said that i know now this model is going to push me,
the following pieces are so delicate that its scary, and i am grate full i bought that darn chinese punch drill off ebay, there is no way i could have cut this as well as it came with out it... worth every penny paid for!!

i really have no idea what the piece represents (any one know) but i was amazed how it turned out, it looks great... :thumb:

It looks like the GPM Tiger may suffer from the same problem as the Halinski one does. The attachment points of the swing arms rely on a small glued area to support the swing arm and the roadwheels. This doesn't work in the Halinski and probably won't for the GPM. I'd suggest devising an alternate attachment method - perhaps a 2-3 mm pin through the hull side might fix the problem. Jim Nunn came up with a solution for his Halinski Panther - comments Jim?

If you have to drill holes in the hull it would be easier now rather than later in the build.

Charlie

Damn charlie, im going to have to thank you 2x :thumb:

that is going to work superbly i tested a hole mount in the tiger (thank you chinese punch drill) and the bamboo rod is going to be a much superior mount for the whole kit, i was thinking i would just run it like a axel but they are off se, but im still going to run it all the way across then super glue the log in place, im sure kitty will be able to stand on the finished assembly once completed... sign1

much kudos for pointing this out and having such a great suggestion.

again thank you x2 !!!

If you're adopting this solution I'd suggest making up a couple of strips of 1+mm card with locating holes for the torsion bars (bamboo dowels) and glue them on the inside of the hull so that you can ensure the swing arms will sit square on the hull. You might be able to just glue the dowels on the inside of the hull but it will be very hard to get the swing arms square. This is important because the roadweel axle has got to be parallel to the torsion bar or the roadwheels won't sit square on the tracks. Any small misalignment of the swing arm gets amplified by the roadwheel axle. I'm only making approximate sense - it's getting late here.

Regards,

Charlie
