Quiet, but not Idle. A couple small ships...

I agree Ski. Painting the hull is one of my favorite techs. I think it really adds a lot of surface and texture reality to the hull.

Good luck with the large scale wooden Fletcher... You might consider buying DN's soon-to-be released Fletcher when it comes out. I think it will be 1/200 scale, but you could double the print out scale and it would make some handy parts for scratch building....

Thanks! It was exactly what I was going to do with the Leutze. I am planning on using the scaled up parts for templates and using sheet/strip styrene for the various bits and pieces. I also bought Floating Drydock's awesome Fletcher Class Plan Book years ago, which will really help.

My only real concern is making sure it gets painted correctly, something I don't have to worry with cardstock....

Nimitz

Yes, Loretta, there is a Nimitz out there.....believe Wilhelmshaven puts it out in 1:250 scale. However, it is very pricy. Even on Ebay I haven't seen it go for much less than $100.
Cheers friend - but a wee bit out of my price range. I got a nice download from SMYTH {Mick} of a CVN 75 not the NIMITZ {CVN 68} but just as BEAUTIFUL {Harry.S.Truman} will post on here when i get started on the build. Regards. Pete. P.S Hope you are having a GGGRRREEEAAATTT Christmas. Take care.

It's hard to tell from these shots Ski. Doesn't look that bad to me. But I know what you're going through.

Do you have scans of the parts? You might try to remove, re-print and laminate to thicker stock???

Another quick shot of the Leutze. I finished the depth charge racks and working it up.

Another updated shot of the ship. This will probably be the last one I photo-copy as the quality of the print simply sucks, thus the newpaper look of the camouflage, hehehe. Note to self, quit trying to be cheap and just buy two next time...

Here are some more updated shots. One of the big shortcomings of this kit is the lack of gun directors like the Mk 51. There was a second set of searchlights instead of the set of gun directors abaft of the aft funnel. I am going to trim these down and scratch build some. I did add pelorises on the bridge wing and will definately add some more detail in this area. Note the incorrectly installed ship davit crane bracket, one of those parts poorly shown on the diagram. My fault, either way.

Wow Ski. Excellent work. Despite the lack of directors, this looks like a nice kit. You've done it well.

The torpedo mounts look incredibly good. Nice effort!

Teamski, looks good to me and you are a clean builder. I know what you mean about the comic book look, this stopped my going any further with a Watkin's kit until I was provided with a clean copy without the funny paper look. My hat is off to you, you kept on building even though of your dislike of the printing. That stops me in my tracks. Am looking forward to the complete build. Good work.:yep:
