I have not been here all that long but it is a shame to see all the good people going like they are. It is clear there is something to it. It seems to have something to do with Crowdgatherers from what I see.:confused::confused: Most of all since a number of people are leaving at the same time.

I remember being told some negative things about Crowdgatherers but cannot seem to recall what they were. Maybe someone can explain the whole thing so we all can understand what is going on.

I don't get it ether:sad:. It's kind of depressing :-(. It just goes along with the present climate, lay offs, foreclosures, business closing. I like all of those guys, and wish them the best . I just hope they keep posting stuff , and the gouge stays up and running.
 now I need a drink ......

I know. I have been wondering about this too. It also seems like there's not half the post there usually are this time of year.
I have wondered how forums die. Now we know. They were taken over by crowdgatherers.

I read Tompm's goodbye and he mentioned Crowdgatherers rule. Anybody know what that is ? Seems to have something to do with this.

There is a set of rules - on CG's site... that they have said will be posted soon in all forums that they own.... one of the many rules is: that we, as staff here. can not be moderators here and on competing (railroad themed) sites. A lot of the staff have always been mods on other sites.....

.... shame... But you'll notice that almost every Mod that has resigned has pledged that they will stay here as Members .. so it's great for the forum at least :D :D

I don't understand. The mods are volunteers. As far as I know, there is no compensation for being a mod.
Why should there be a rule against being a mod on several forums?

No, there is not...... the only compensation we get is the Fun and enjoyment we get by coming here and seeing all the members, replying to posts and exchanging information with all of you....

We don't know either.... But I'm guessing it has to do with competition between sites as far as information exchanging between sites on the "Staff" levels.. It's fine for regular members to post the same thing on different sites, but it's not ok to be on Staff here and be on staff anywhere else...

Now remember it IS ok to be on staff at other sites and also be on staff here.. the "other sites" don't have such a rule.......

..... Don & I are still sorting all this out.....

$$$$$'s is the reason....If the departing mods are putting the same kind of effort they put in here into other forums, folks will start visiting them, and obviously won't be seeing the links and adds that generate the $$'s for CG....

The-gauge is a fancy name. Not fancy enough to pack up and move on though. I believe the new place will be much better.

If this site had a marketing department, the man running it is a programer and doesn't know how to fundraise. Its a shame as I even talked to him about it and he showed me the the door.

I wonder how fast "rules" could would change if the members started following our favorite mods to the "other" forums? The Gauge may be the best forum, but it isn't the only forum ....

I just hope those promises won't be like the ones your old girlfriend told you right after she broke up with you...."...but we can still be friends..."

That's exactly correct. :thumb: Any forum is really all about its membership.

"I'll call you sometime" :) No seriously, I plan to contribute here but just not as much as I did as a moderator.
